Congrats. With all of your sage advice and knowledge, it sounds like you work at a tire store. Why don't you just post where you work so all of us can come buy tires from you? TIA...

I'm in Arkansas and yes my dad owns a tire store up here. I retired from the military rather than going into that business, but I was but 12 years old when I sold and mounted and balanced my first set. Yes, I do have knowledge of tires. Your anger over being told you overpaid for the name Michelin on your tires is aimed at the wrong person. Be angry with yourself.

Meanwhile, Michelin DOES build good tires, no denying that, but compared to Cooper, Hankook, BFG, Toyo and such, they are simply too high priced.

Nitto Terra Grappler

These are what I run. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have around 72,000 miles on my mine and they still have plenty of life left. Toyo Open Country tires are a good choice as well. I have friends with those and they seem similar quality as the Nittos.

Terra grapplers are good. Ride good on road and are not that noisy.

Cooper
I used to be hardcore against them, but the dad of a one of my wife's friends owns a tire store and recommended their Mastercraft Courser AXT tire.

They turned out to be good tires, especially for the price I paid.

My choice would be the Michelin LTX (even with the price) my second choice which I think nobody has mentioned would be the Firestone Destination LE for less money. On the bargain side I have heard good things about the General Grabber HTS but have never run them.

Same tire as the Cooper Discover SRX and a damn good tire, for Cooper truck tires, I like the AT3 myself, but I probably wouldn't buy it if I was mostly doing highway driving.

My GMC Sierra came with Goodyear SR-A tires and actually aren't too bad. I drive eighty miles on the interstate daily and will have a tough decision when it's time to change these out.

I will be in the market in the near future and have been researching. Hercules makes some good lookin tires and I'm leaning towards the Terra Trac AT IIs. They look good and are good bang for buck.

Supposedly made by Cooper too.

NOte a lot of people are suggesting more AT tires which aren't available in the low aspect ratio the OP needs.

The Cooper Discover AT3 is available in that size. Pretty aggressive AT tire.

Stay away from. These tires are not of equal quality to many others on the market. If you want a Cooper off brand go with Mastercraft.

Go to Walmart and get the cheapest tires possible. You'll never even notice them once they're on.

Not sure why people post shite like this. The tires WM, and other big retailers, sell is basically of the exact same quality you can buy anywhere else. The main difference is WM buys so many tires that the manufacturers produce entire tire lines just for them. But the tire is of equal quality to one you could buy from a dedicated tire dealer.

The difference, of course, is the level of service you get at a dedicated tire store, compared to Wal Mart, or whatever big box you should choose.
