The problem here is not the homework

Why so late? I remember having homework every night at that age....but my parents made that be the first thing we did when we got home. You wanted to go play with friends or watch tv....do your homework first.
This was my life as a kid, too. But I don't remember having to do hours and hours of homework. I think I'd get home after school, eat my Oreo's and milk, then do my homework and was out playing with my friends until the street lights came on.

I was in public school and don't remember having a ton to do, but my buddy down the street went to Catholic school and his schoolbag was always loaded down and he always had hours of homework.

Talk to the teacher. Maybe they shouldn't be taking so long to complete. She may be struggling with the material

All A's and B's. She's not struggling. It's the quantity. For example, this week she has 4 test to study for, math homework every night, social studies homework every night, reading every night, english assignment every night, and a science assignment two nights this week. And on top of all that shite she has to prepare a powerpoint presentation and give a 5 minute lecture on the material. She has never opened powerpoint in her life. Doesn't even know what the icon looks like. Just too damn ridiculous!!!

Same, except I was allowed to have MTV on while I did my homework (back when it was just music videos...convinced my mom the music helped me)

My son is in 4th grade but only gets homework two nights a week and it is usually 2 hours worth. He does have to do a spelling activity every night (his choice) they give lots of things he can choose from he usually does spelling city on the computer. Not much homework at all really but this school district doesn't send home a lot of homework...they do a great job of getting it done in the classroom.

And people wonder why kids grow ever more hateful towards school.. My 4th grader usually has 30-45 minutes of homework, not including reading. Some required and some we do as a family. We sometimes spend extra time studying for tests

what?
why is an 8 year old taking naps? what is she tired from?

Not to be rude, but i think she might not be the brightest crayon in the box. Find out if her friends are taking that long too. if not, she may be a little behind.

Homework should not be learning new things..If your kid is teaching herself at home, after school, in all of these subjects, you have a deeper problem

The time she's starts on homework is irrelevant IMO... going to school for 6-8 hours and then having 4 hours of homework is ridiculous.

We are sitting right there with her. It makes no sense to send that much homework home. It's counterproductive IMO.

Exactly. If these assignments are taking 4 hours, that's either poor teaching or she's not absorbing at school. Having assignments is not a problem but they should each only take max 30 minutes to complete at that age.

Sorry this dudes kid needs special attention...The fact that she doesn't start until most kids are done...She comes home so tired that she takes naps...

This is not normal..Homework is a review of materials that were covered
