I'd vary your distances and routes day to day. Also work in a hill or speed workout once a week. Don't always try and run the same distance at the same pace. It's more mental most of the time than anything overcoming what your body has set into a routine.
Also, the heat of the summer makes it harder endurance wise so can play games with you as well.

Sprint workouts are great to increase your endurance. Find a local track and do some variations on the track at distances no more than a mile.
I heard go to a football field and run an hour glass pattern. Walk the endzones corner to corner and sprint 100 yards across the field to the opposite corner. Repeat.

Hal Higdon is your answer.

Run 12 400's @ 5K pace and 1:30 rest. Its a bitch but a great track workout.

Find someone to run with. Group running allows for a little more motivation to toughing out a run and getting over a hump.

Plateau is easiest part.
That incline before you get to flat part is what sucks.

Do an out and back course and turn around more than halfway past your normal run.
This helped me increase my distance. My plateau was mental. I also stopped keeping my watch on. I'd wrap it to the tree where I started and pick it up on the way back. If you ignore the time and distance you're currently at, it's easier to overcome your plateau.

I would go with sprinting! I dont do running but I've heard several times that for marathon runners who keep hitting a wall, that sprinting will help overcome it.
Its free, so it's worth a try.

Never used one. Is that what I see people wearing around their chest? How much are they? I didn't realize they helped that much.
Check out the Garmin's on Amazon. I have the 305, but I don't think they make it anymore (it's sold on amazon, but way overpriced now). HR monitors are great. If nothing else it gives your mind something to do, constantly setting goals. GPS lets you know exactly where you've been and how far.

Stop running

Started doing this and I have noticed a drastic difference in the past month. Just running wasn't doing anything about my post college beer belly.
