Have a 2000 Dodge Dakota V8 Quad Cab I use for work. Ol Betsy have given me 290,000 miles with not many issues.....knock on wood.
I wanted to find out about transmission flushes. I thought about doing it as kind of a tune-up. I currently have no issues with the transmission, but just thought it might help it go longer (yes, I am being greedy!)
I have had some tell me, if it isn't causing problems, don't create one. And also, say sometimes they do more harm than good.
But some say it might be a good idea.
Thoughts?

Transmission flush is hardly ever necessary. Save your money. Keep doing what you've been doing to keep it running for so long.

Don't get one of those flushes.

Will stir up shite and shorten your tranny's life.

Get a shop to drop the pan, change filter & gaskets & do it right.

Axe Placebeaux. He's the OT tranny expert.

If you have 290,000 miles on a 46re transmission the last thing I would do is flush the oil. Those were actually known as "lemon" transmissions and have issues. Flushing a high mileage transmission can clean worn seals too much and actually cause problems.

Ok...Well actually, my uncle rebuilt it after it was a flooded buy.
He said the transmission he put in was made by Mercedes. I don't know.

what engine do you have? The 5.2l?

Yes it was "made" by Daimler/Chrysler if it's a 2000, but it was owned by Daimler made by dodge and contracted out to a Kokomo Indiana manufacturing plant. Daimler made a lot of improvement, but still had issues with the first generation electronic overdrive transmissions. Lot of valve body issues, but your uncle likely put the shift kit in to fix most of those issues on the rebuild. I would ask his advice since he built it for you.
