Phhsh, child's play. Try getting a work visa for India in 3 days over a holiday weekend.
I got my China visa in about that, sent a courier to the consulate, cost $20 and my company reimbursed

yep, know of a couple of recent renewals that came back in about that time

I had to stand in line all day outside in NYC in July with about 300 indians because India outsourced its visa work. Ironic that India outsourced something.

true, I've found that the courier way is pretty painless, I guess they do it so often there must be a special line for them, or maybe they grease(curry?) some palms to get it done quicker

Oh, its a shite show out there. An Indian news station was trying to interview me about the process. I kept telling them No Comment.

drive to New Orleans passport office and stand in line with cash money.
Posted on 1/7/15 at 1:39 pm to dewster
There's a place in Houston that can do it in a couple of or 3 days, Sam's passport or something like that.

It's funny/sad how many Americans don't have passports, and then freak out at the last minute when they realize they need one.
This is one of the legit reasons the Euros laugh at us.

1. Go to the passport office in New Orleans at Canal Place in the morning.
2. Pay an assload of money in fees.
3. Hang out in New Orleans for a few hours. Spend more money on that than the fees.
4. Walk away with new expidited passport.
It's a huge pain but you can in fact get a same-day passport. Firsthand knowledge here. Woke up to leave for St. Lucia, checked passport thinking it was good through 2015....it had expired 3 days earlier.

well most of their punk arse little countries are more like the size of our states, so the need for one is a little more practical, they don't laugh when I'm looking at them!

the US is a big country, and many of our residents tend to be xenophobic and isolationist. Europe is smaller with lots of smaller countries and numerous borders. Much easier to live your whole life in the US w/o ever leaving the country, than any country in Europe.
That said, I agree that it is dumb to wait until the last minute for your passport. I renewed mine 6 months beforei t expired last year, and it wasn't even going to be expired for my trip, just had a bout 30 days left on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got everything I need for the New Orleans office tomorrow morning.
Sounds like an awesome excuse to eat some real food for a change and enjoy the Big Easy for a while. It's only 6 hours from my house, but the Arkansas office couldn't take me until late next week. I can also avoid the 7 degree weather we are having up here tonight.
I already have a passport application pending. My employer just moved my travel date up from late Feb to Jan 19.
I'm going to Istanbul. Should be challenging, but a real blast.
Maybe I can do that!

Make an appointment in your closest office which looks like Hot Springs for you. It takes less than one hour and you will leave with your passport. LINK
I did it in NO and it was a breeze, ignore the idiots in this thread

I think each office is a little different. I get mine same day at the Dallas office. Doesn't matter if you're the first in line in the morning and they get it done in thirty minutes, they're not going to hand them out until 2 o'clock. Everyone else at work has has the same experience with them.

What is the quickest legitimate way to get a passport?
Go to courthouse with all necessary documents: state issued photo id, your social security card, and your birth certificate (no copies of anything).
Then fill out the passport form, and request your password to be expedited.
Not super hard.

Hate to be the one to break the bad news to you but Moscow is over 1,500 kilometers or 1,000 miles closer to London than LA is to NY. They need a passport to drive more than two hours in almost any direction we do not. My inlaws freak out about the size of the US every time they visit, and I promise they do not laugh at us.

Yep and if you are going to be working overseas save yourself some trouble and get the extra pages added up front. It cost the same and will save you some headache down the line.
