So I've been playing for roughly a year now and am getting a little better. Took some lessons and now I'm not hitting in the 100's anymore, but long story short I have a set of old clubs passed on from my dad. I just think it's time to go get a set of my own.

So any suggestions on which ones for a weekend golfer like me? Also they can be used, I'm considering looking at the stuff at Edwin watts as well. TIA, any advice is appreciated

How much does this process cost? Do they need to special order them for you?

Wait for the Edwin watts tent sale. Great deals. Got some taylormade burner plus there a while back for cheap. I really like them.

Don't get fit at Edwin Watts. GolfTec or a cheaper option would be at a local course. Another good idea is to go to a few of the pro days coming up. Once you know what you want, then go through a place like edwin watts. Make sure you have a copy of your setup specs (e.i. shaft length +-, Lie +-).

You can for some parts of it, like shaft length and stiffness (dick joke!). Those are very important.

As far as hosel angle, that's a bit different. You can figure out what would be best for you and pick a brand based on the slight differences they have there.

I had mine blades fitted for me before ordering so they came with correct hosel and shafts for my swing.

Research the best game improvement irons (or super game improvement if you're 20+) of 15, and 16 on golf magazine sites and GolfWRX or MyGolfSpy.

See what is aesthetically pleasing to you and try and find them in stores to hit. Every major brand has a game improvement sets, and in this category, performance will be very similar.

My tip is to research 2015 models and buy on ebay. Plenty of previous year new inventory that people are trying to unload. Use the money saved to go to GolfTec or get some lessons.

I'm a Wilson Staff guy myself, and their irons have been great for me as a new player. Started 3 years ago, and am now a 16 hcp. I'm partial, but look into Wilson Staff D200 irons.

They've got a couple of guys who, if you end up with them, don't really do a full fitting. They look at your height and guess you're a standard or +1. They don't ever get you hitting off a plastic mat with mark tape on the club to see where you're really striking and if you need lie changes or length changes. It's more about "feel" and "what you like". If you're going to pay someone, get someone who knows what they're doing with regard to it all. Lie, Length, shaft stiffness, mid kick, low kick, etc.

Good USED set.

Clubs devalue like college textbooks.

Edwin Watts or Golfsmith usually have a ton of trade in sets. They may have been upgraded. Meaning fitted, custom shafts, re gripped, and those changes may be custom fit to you.

Cavity back was mentioned. YES.

Blades were mentioned (the poster did not mean them for you). NO. Some blade sets looking awesome. Don't let their beauty suck you in. You ain't ready. I COULD shoot a legit 85 when I played a lot. I was not ready.

I started on a set of ping i3's I found on eBay. I didn't know about the pong dot system and fitting clubs so while they are great clubs they didn't fit me. Make sure you do that or you'll be looking again shortly after.
