I was running yesterday and had to stop bc my knee was hurting so bad. It's my left knee at the left front spot. I tried the elliptical today and it hurt too bad but was fine when I used the bike. It feels fine walking and everything else, only hurts when running and using the elliptical

Ok.
Motrin water light exercise on s bike.
You'll be ok in a couple of weeks at most. Probably 3-5 days. Relax

There really are a ton of directions I can go here
1.) Please don't heel strike
2.) Look upstream and downstream
a.) How's your quad immediately above the knee?
b.) How's the muscle on top of your shin?
c.) If these are tight, they can really impact your knee.
Assuming you don't have a structural injury...
I suspect your have a rotational issue, either due to tight hips or a foot strike too angled (pronation).

It's just the let side kid the knee that's tender. No pain anywhere unless I try and run

Do you have a foam roller by chance?
Look up IT band release on youtube and focus on going really slow and deep.
Worth a shot.

Weird, exact same thing happened to me. Left knee, left front spot bothered me but only when I was running. Got a PT friend of mine to check it out a few days ago, he said it was caused from having a weak hip flexor/outer thigh muscle.
He suggested to use the hip flexor machine and strengthen those muscles. Apparently when you have a weak outer thigh/hip flexor when running it pulls the knee out of it's natural groove causing the pain (used some PT language I don't remember exactly) but basically said strengthen those muscles and it should help with the pain and keep the knee in it's natural groove.

I get bursitis in the front/inside of my knees at times, my family Dr gives me a shot of cortisone (or something) in them which makes it go away.
Last shot was August 2015 and I've been pain free ever since

Sounds like a case of runner's knee to me
Runner's World - Runner's Knee
I occasionally get runner's knee due to a weak left ankle. I've had really good results with Spenco shoe inserts. They stabilize the knee and prevent excessive pronation.
Good luck

Sounded like an IT band issue to me as well. OP, have you just began running or just increased distance?

Jesus people. This is an easy one. I completely got rid of a similar pain when I quit running.
Running beats the crap out of your joints and is the devil.

I want you to come with me on a journey. You're a doctor, you've worked all day and come home, log on the computer hoping to relax and get your daily Harambe memes.
You stop by the OT to see what's up. You see this thread, trying to be helpful you take a gander, maybe you can provide some quick advice for the kids broken dick. Instead you read the above sentence. Do you think someone is likely going to go the extra step to help you, when 12 years of English couldn't?

You need a strong medicine called Antiaidsoftheknee.
Good luck!
