To do this sort of curved wood strip, do the boards need to be steamed? Is that how they can curve it like that?
Do you have any other recommended decorative trim-outs you recommend?

You can soak them in water then bend them and let them dry.
Or you can cut it out of a bigger piece of wood.

wood that small can be wet/heated and then clamped in that shape to dry.
larger stuff is often comprised of laminate strips glued together and clamped to dry in that shape.

Lowes and Home Depot usually have curved 2"x 4"s in stock

damn truth...that stack of studs often looks like a pile of spaghetti with patches of bark.

2x4s are bad, but their 2x2's are pretty much unusable!

Must be nice to have so much money to waste money on something like this.

More like spend time. I have the tools to do all that. I just haven't bent lumber before. I've seen it done on YouTube using PVC pipe and a wallpaper steamer.

Buy some 1" x 8" x 8' and cut the curve and then sand it and you can do that in a day. Be sure to save the first one you cut for a pattern. If you can't find a 1 by 8 then buy a 2 by 8 and rip the board in half to make a 1 by. It's really not that hard but you need a rip saw and a fair amount of time. Oh yeah, you will either need a ban saw or a jig saw also. LINK
