Problem

- Extremely dry skin, i.e. flaky and cracked on top of coat near spine, stretching from bottom of her neck to almost her tail.

Subject

- 22 months old

Current regimen

- Diet consists of Canidae Life Stages Chicken Meal & Rice Formula Dry Dog Food x 2 daily
- Fluoride additive added to her drinking water x 2 daily
- Benadryl added to her food to help with allergies x 2 daily
- Hydrating Butter (lotion) x 2 daily
- Inside dog, with the exception of bathroom breaks, exercise or play time

Recent changes (only recently done since skin issue)

- In process of switching her from Canadie to AvoDerm Natural Chicken Meal & Brown Rice Formula Adult Dry Dog (only on day 2, gradually changing over)
- Salmon Oil x 2 daily

Is there a specific medication or topical that I am missing that can help my dog with?

Or is there a specific veterinarian in the BR area that specializes in a dog's skin?

Not much help here but how long ago did you start the Salmon oil?
This also could be a food allergy. Is there any common ingredients in the two foods you've been using? I see both are a chicken and rice. Might want to cut one out and see if this helps some.

My dog had some skin issue and I brought him to my normal vet "All Pets Hospital" and he was cleared up in a week or so.

Took some antibiotics and some ointment.

Dumb question maybe but did this start right at the time of the new food introduction?

We had a Frenchie years ago with the worst skin. Dry, flaky, shed so much I can't believe she wasn't bald. Skin would get so dry she bled. Vet put her on meds plus lotion and the fish oil we were already giving.

Tried every overpriced food designed to help with those issues grain free to gluten free to cooking her meals ourselves. Switched to Purina Pro Plan and said goodbye to all her skin problems and all meds.

I can't remember, but it was one of the omegas (3 or 6) that helped my dogs skin and coat the best. I just looked for the stuff highest in it. That fish oil should've taken care of it though

No, her issue surfaced about three weeks ago. I decided to switch dog food about a week ago and just introduced her to the new food yesterday (she's had two meals with the new food).

I'll completely move her over the new food in about 5 to 7 days.

Salmon oil was just introduced to her diet about 4 days ago.

I know for certain she is allergic to carrots, which is why I always buy food without carrots. I have not done a skin allergy test. It's puzzling to me because she has been on Canidae for at least the last 6 months without any issues.

The antibiotic may be what she needs.

And it may. We just started salmon oil about 4 days ago.

The flax seed should help as well, based upon what I have researched.

No, red.

So this should only happen with Blue and Fawn Dobies, right?

Edit ... her brother is Blue (different owner, but my wife follows them on Instagram).

Yes and no. She will occasionally bite at it, however I have cortisone spray that helps relieve the "itch" that I will use as needed. The Benadryl also helps.

My friends dog, Packer, had this same problem..... he tried all kinds of shite and spent a couple grand on the him. Finally he started bathing Packer every other day with Head and Shoulders and he's been fine since.
