OT Docs and Med Students do y'all consider the "Island Schools' legit?

I have known a few classmates that couldn't get into medical schools here in the states after multiple attempts, so they went down to the islands.
How do y'all view them as colleagues and students since they couldn't make it into a state-side medical school?

When you go to the doctor, do you ask where they went to medical school before going?

I wouldn't give a frick if I made a boatload of cash.
So, do they still make a boatload of cash?

Apparently its hard for white people to get into med school in the states, right? That sucks.

It's very true. A friend of mine is dating a girl who's in vet school out there. She should be graduating soon.

Extremely hard for white people to get into med school now. It's all Indians.

I semi-had this conversation with coworkers yesterday. She was saying that they are easier, but I was saying white people end up going there because they can't get in here and the classes are the same.

Who told you that?

I hate white med school applicants.

From what I hear, where you do your residency holds more weight.

Don't they do their residencies in the U.S. anyway?

I know a guy who spent 2 years at a med school in the Caribbean, then moved back and finished at LSU.
You know what his degree says?
LSU

There were a couple of guys in my wife's residency program that went the island route. One guy is finishing his surgery residency in NYC and will start his plastics fellowship in Chicago. The other guy transferred to Cornell to finish his residency (a huge upgrade) and is now doing his fellowship at a top place in California.
The way medicine is going these days, I don't see a problem with an island school. The only drawback is that you will have to fight a little harder to get a residency position. You can always transfer to a better residency program once you are in. Also, you can be the top person in a mid level residency program and then get into a top fellowship program.

This, where your internships and residencies are located matter much more than where you received your medical degree. However, your medical school is important for getting internships and your internships are important for getting your residency, so, take it for what it's worth.

I have a cousin who is in med school in St. George, Grenada. I'm not sure how they are viewed within their profession.

I'm not asking or caring about what they make, I just want to know how others in the profession view them.
I have used and work with island schools vets before, and think they are good.

Yes and your last two years of rotations in med school are usually done in the states. Like someone said earlier, your med school is important for your residency and your residency is important for your career.

Lol at it's hard for white people to get in. The vast majority of all med students are probably white. There are just lots of other white folk competing for those spots than other ethnicities.
You will probably get looked down upon by other med students in the states or other Dr's, just because they want to assert their dominance over you and say they are better and smarter.
Also, it is harder to get into a residency, unless you get really good grades. and since you were already not smart enough to get into a US school you probably wont be pulling straight A's and high board exams at the Caribbean schools unless you change your demeanor on studying.
But besides that, it's got a lot of upside. You still get to be a MD. You get to live on a fricking exotic island with hot bitches and pay less tuition. Oh and you're still a Dr.
If you can't get in in the states, there is no reason NOT to go to the islands.

They're more expensive and it's harder to compete for residency spots.
