OT Dads: do you teach your sons how to fight?

...or maybe some self defense moves, or simply how to throw a good punch or two?
I know as parents we aren't supposed to teach kids to fight, but we also don't want our kids ending up like the ginger at Byrd.

As a father of 3, I don't need to.
They learn from beating up the dog.

Why would anyone want their child to go through life defenseless? Do you give your child a rape whistle and hope for the best? I would never encourage anyone to seek out a fight, but sometimes the fight finds you.

My dad beat the shite out of me. I learned that way.
Also I had same age male cousins. We beat the shite out of each other.

Make your son take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Nobody will want to fight your son......ever.

I taught them not to get into fights but if ever in a situation where it is unavoidable to finish it with one punch, to the nose.

My dad did not teach me.
I learned by trial and error. Mostly error for me though. I am not a fighter.
I learned to befriend the bigger guys.

My dad taught me how to throw a solid punch and handle myself if I'm ever taken to the ground. If I have a son, I expect to teach him the same.

yup. My old man didn't teach me anything other than to defend myself if provoked. The rest comes from instincts, athleticism, and experience. Not much of a fighter, but you would probably still want to check my knuckles before tangling.

That is very true. Teach your son to scream "one on one." And call out one of the guys that are about to be hostile. Having your buddies jump in after you are called out severely damages your rep and basically means you are a coward.
