Are better deals to be had on buying a new car out of a bigger market such as Houston? I am looking at Houston MB dealers and compare to NOLA and BR and it looks like it is worth the trip to make the purchase in Houston. Is this always the case?

Generally, yes.

I know plenty of people who get a car 5k cheaper in Texas in a deal done through email, less than five messages.

I was going to use that to try and get the salesman here to go down on the price. Do you think I would have any luck?

My fiance and myself have bought our last 4 vehicles (combine) out of Houston/Dallas. We find we can get much better deals over there. Personally I even get better interest rates too, I have no idea why that is though.

Truecar, it's the real deal.

You can try. A lot of times they'll just tell you to go get that deal though. Some will also tell you it's a bait and switch and that you'll never get the car you think you are at the price you think, but I've never had issues and have gone to Houston for 3 vehicles.

Yea I looked at Truecar also, but apparently there is no data in the area for the car my wife wants.

Never hurts to try but in my experience it doesn't help much. A lot of people would rather pay an extra $4-5k and stay within 20min of there house over traveling 5 hours to Houston so the dealerships don't really price match much, at least on my deals they haven't.

It feels great to buy a vehicle out of state and then go back to the local dealer who didn't want to help you and show them the car you just bought just like you said you would.

I drove down to Houston to get a truck back in 2010. They were 4K-5K off anything I could find locally at the time.

Bigger markets absolutely help deals, but NOLA and BR will likely match anything Houston offers on a NEW car.

Ok I will try but I won't hold my breath they seem to be 5k-6k more than Houston

Not so much on MB or BMW.

True car is very meh.

Cross-shopping is about the only way to get a lower price.

Get them to send you a quote by email or fax so you can discuss it with your wife. Walk into the local dealerships and ask them to match it. I only suggest it because it has worked for me. They do want something in writing from the other dealership.
