OT Business Gurus -- Powerpoint Styles

I find myself judging business presentations based on powerpoint styles. When someone uses the clunky old bullet point style, it is the equivalent of that person wearing a suit from 1965; it just looks out of date.
I have a big presentation coming up next month. What styles are current? What do you like to see? Any thoughts at all?

While old, bullet points are great.
Instant zero for any bullshite slide transitions.

Yeah if it looks like George Lucas is transitioning your slides, you're doing it wrong.

The simpler the better. I don't need shite flying in from the top and dancing fricking bananas.

Fancy slides are practically worthless.
People are only going to remember and key on 2-3 things per slide. Do you really want them distracted by templates?
My go-to method is clean slides and using shapes to separate thoughts.
Remember, you can talk as much as you like on a given slide, but you can't fill the page with shite.
The MOST important part is customizing your presentation to your audience. I had a client once who hated presentations, so I eventually just started using one or two handouts for him (old guy). Others, I'll get all chart crazy, because they respond well to charts.
Know your audience.

Or Keynote.
Keep them as simple as possible.

Really?
That is so damn shallow.
That is so damn shallow.

Pretty sure I am not alone in that sense. But I agree it is shallow.
Let me say it differently. When one presenter has a clean, slick presentation, and the next person uses a clunky-bullet-pointed-wall-of-text, I notice the difference.

It is better to keep it as simple as possible. Unless your goal is to show everyone you know how to use Powerpoint then you really don't need to add anything more than you need to.
People just want the information. You do have to be aware of who you are presenting it to, some people might like a more colorful presentation, but you don't have to add all the bells and whistles just because you can.

This is presentation 101. Tell them exactly what they need/want to know, nothing more nothing less.
Provide links or state the sources so that people will know how to find more information on a particular category, if they want to learn more about it, but don't waste people's time.
Unless you are doing a school project or in a situation where you really have to "wow" someone, all you really need is an outline.

Simple bullet slides work great.
The young guys in our company love to spend countless hours dressing up slides with a bunch of unnecessary bullshite and then spend the whole presentation reading from their slides because they didn't have enough time to think about what they needed to say.
