I want to go to Hawaii then for 2500. How do I make that happen?
Start out already being in Honolulu; RT airfare from MSY to HNL is about $900 per person.

So that would be 1800 for flights right off the bat. Leaving 700 bucks for hotels, food, booze, etcetera.

Not quite enough right?

You could check out Central America. I bet you two could go to Costa Rica or panama for that price.

This man gets it.

This blog post Does Bora Bora for $90.

Do not mock what you don't understand.

Maldives

You could always AirBnB on a different island in the chain? I'm not sure Maldives is worth the hassle getting there even though I could pull it off. Lots of flying, lots of points, not enough vacation time etc

I don't have 9 months to build up points. Although I'll look into that for the next trip.

Ya you have to modify it to your situation.

A good idea for you on short notice is you and your wife get Barclay's Arrival Plus cards. After $3k in spend, you get $440 in value or $880 total (X2 cards). You get 120 days to credit your points towards a travel purchase so even after your vacation is over you can earn points and credit the transactions. Points post immediately when earned and can be redeemed immediately. That can help.

You can make your vacation either $1600($2500 - $900) or $3400($3400-$900= original target expense) now.
