Opinion - leaving job - disclose new job or not?

Do you think it is needed to tell your employer where you are going when you quit your job? I am about to leave a job, and I don't have any sort of non-compete agreement or anything like that, so should I say where I am going or just say that I am taking some time off or what? Curious what you guys think.

I know they don't need to, but really I am just trying to make my remaining time here cordial and I don't have any beef with the place I work now.

They don't need to know and they probably don't care

There is no need to tell them anything more than you are taking another opportunity. Only tell them if they ask.

None of their business

I don't think they need to know but I also don't think it is wise to lie and say you are taking time off. It doesn't look good if they find out the next day you are at your new job. Just be honest and say I got an offer and I am taking them up on it. Be prepared for them to ask where and decide how you want to answer that.

I don't really hide where I'm going when I leave, but I don't make it a point to talk up everyone and their mother and let them know either.
Are you not giving a two week notice?

I mean don't lie. Either don't disclose or tell them the truth...

I am giving about three weeks notice.

Apparently the head of my office will write a letter bashing you to your new employer, she is a whole other level of crazy.

I don't think they need to know - it's none of their business. That being said, there is a hypothetical possibility that if they knew you were leaving for another company (I'm assuming a company in the same line of work), they may offer options in hopes you'll stay (ie a raise, promotion, etc.). Of course, you'll never know unless you disclose you're leaving for another job. But if you do that, there is the possibility of the non-compete agreement being brought into play...that would make for an interesting situation

I would not tell them, just thank them for your time there.
The days of having any allegiance to place of business is over.
We are at a point where people are easily replaceable, so churn is high in most industries and normal.

You should just say that you are leaving to pursue another opportunity. Short and simple.

Dont say anything unless they ask then just be honest with them.

Ok, well then ethically you can do what you want .
If you think they're going to be dicks, don't tell them. If you think they are excited or apathetic that you are improving yourself, tell them.

If they fire you, will they call you next week and tell you who they hired as a replacement?
