there is no engineering available for the lift(s)
I'm surprised cruzan bid at all
I wouldn't do it for 600K no matter what I thought the real cost would be
too much liability

I thought nobody had any idea how the statues were attached, what the inside of the foundation looked like, how the foundation is attached to the ground, etc?
If I was an insurance company, I'd tell the contractor he wasn't covered to move them.
I wish they would just let this die. Nobody cares anymore. Only seven people cared when Bitch brought it up

In the bid package it details how each statue is attached.

At least in NY that's a part of means and methods to develop a pick plan. It's usually on the construction engineer to develop that. They might have one in house to guestimate a plan and costs.

I can do it for $200k.
Hire a bunch of Mexicans to work the machinery on the others, hire a black owned crane company to take down lee.
Use a out of state po box llc.

--------------------------------------------------------------
The bid package included approximate specs on the statues: size, weight and composition. It specified that the be removed undamaged and crated for safe transportation and storage.
Removal of the Lee pedestal was not part of the package.
Removal of the entire Beauregard base is required, but it's not a straight out demolition. Some cladding, granite and architectural features around the
base are to be salvaged and returned to the city.
I'd guess Jefferson Davis will be the first to go. The bust is the smallest of the three included in the bid and is only 8' or 10' off the ground.

And $600,000 is a ridiculous price. The only justification I can possibly imagine is that the contractor will contract with mercenaries to provided 24 hour security.

Since no one else bid, is it really a ridiculous price?

I have a copy of the bid package in my office
there is no engineering for the lifts included and liability is strictly on the contractor
as I said I wouldn't do it for 600K
YMMV

I didn't say the package included engineering details or a lift plan. I said they provided approximate dimensions, weights and material compositions of the statues.

sounds like they are just removing the statues and not the bases as well. This is going to look terrible with just the bases sitting there with nothing on top.
They'll inevitably be replaced with MLK statues. Maybe with luck we'll get a louis Armstrong one too.

I've got more work than I can handle already and this project doesn't seem like it would be worth the aggravation.

I'd expect so. If nothing else, Mitch won't have to bawl like a baby every time he drives by them anymore. His tender heart will be spared the trauma.

which is exactly what I said, and exactly why the lone bid was so high
Posted on 4/4/17 at 7:16 pm to cgrand
Why wouldn't some out of state contractor come in and bid on this job? I'd imagine there's at least ONE black owned company somewhere that would do it for pennies.

bet if you took a survey of this board, 75% couldn't point out what it was memorializing.
If you surveyed New Orleanians, 90% couldn't tell you the location of any of the statues except Lee Circle, and 99% couldn't tell you who those men were.

will do this for 100k. Rent a truck, some tools, and 10 mexicans for a day.
I'll make 75k profit.
According to my spreadsheet, you're overpaying your Mexicans.
Where do you get your Mexicans? Who's your Mexican dealer?
