Zimbabweans will be able to exchange their almost worthless local currency for the American dollar from Monday until the end of September.

The U.S. dollar has been used in the country since 2009, but now the local currency is being officially phased out.

People with accounts of up to 175 quadrillion — 175,000,000,000,000,000 — will be paid $5.

So what I suppose to do with the email from the Zimbabwean lottery saying I had won 10 million. What that like 50cents? That not even worth responding to the email.

What percentage of the country's real estate could I buy with 10 grand? I could probably get a solid chunk of land

Not sure, but I assume it's been a long time since $1 bills existed there. The articles says:

In 2008, the country printed its highest ever banknote, a 100 trillion dollars.

Are you white? They'd take it from you in a matter of months if you are.

You can't own land there. Mugabe took all the white ranch owner's land and handed it over to people with no ranching background. That's why their currency is in the toilet.

One day you are wheelbarrowing concrete, the next day it's a commodity less valuable per pound.

The Chinese have moved in since the initial Zim land grab. It'll be interesting to see how their govt handles the Mugabe Regime when it ultimately turns on them.

Go see Victoria Falls. It's on the border with Zambia. You can probably pick some up there.

I think the smallest ecuadorian sucre bill before they went to USD was $50,000. I still have a stack of those and some larger ones too.
