Yes. Most people get very little from FEMA from what I've read. Whether someone has insurance or not shouldn't really determine how much they get right?
If you have flood insurance, you will get the dollar amount you need up to 250k. Thats how insurance works...........

If you dont have insurance, you will get pennies on the dollar from FEMA

I didn't have flood insurance, didn't flood, and I'm not going to get it.
I have savings. Unless I get 5'+ in my house, I am more than capable of doing the necessary repairs myself. Drywall isn't expensive. If i am able to keep my furniture dry the only real expenses are flooring and cabinets, maybe a fridge and dishwasher.
$500 a year for something that is so unlikely to happen isn't cheap to me.
I pay $2000 a year to insure my house for basically hurricanes and fire. What makes flooding so much more likely than a hurricane or fire? Why is it excluded?

Thought I heard the governor say that the parishes in the disaster relief area will be eligible for up to $33k from FEMA
Yeh. Working citizens who make decent money wont be the ones who get the full 33k.....

My Wife is currently handling the flood claims for LSU, and the Louisiana Housing Authority. shite is hitting the fan for her for sure. The people that were required to have flood insurance and didn't take it out, get nothing from FEMA per the Stafford Act. It doesn't just effect homeowners. My wife was just telling me that most school boards can't afford flood insurance. That being said, the parishes she knows of had flood insurance. As far as LSU goes, she was getting her ducks in a row this past weekend to have everybody in place. No numbers yet but we'll know shortly the extent of the damage there.

I don't think this means what you and others think it means.

I and every one on here understand that it is just a way of representing the statistically probability of an event of this nature happening. Nobody here thinks it means that since we have had this flood wee are good for another 1000 years, we no that however unlikely it could happen again in month, week, 10 days, 10 years.

sister and BIL don't have it and by some miracle their house was one of few in their subdivision of south harrell's ferry that did not flood. I told them you better get a policy as soon as this is over because next time you may not be so lucky.

Our house is in that subdivision and we are surely glad we were spared.

Do you really need it? FEMA comes in and then changes the rules and pays big $$$>

My house sits at 180 feet. Do you think this is ok? I bought flood insurance today anyway.

There's an extremely small % of people in this state that say if 20"-25" of rain was dumped within 48 hours that would not flood.

Not really. I mean if they allow themselves to they will. It is actually not difficult at all to get what you deserve through flood insurance

Up to 33k...and I would imagine you better have all your ducks lined up just perfectly to get the full amount.

Once you do get FEMA aid...you will be required to get flood insurance from here on out.

And if you ever sell your house you have to inform the buyer that they have to have flood insurance because you received FEMA aid.

Im sure the Feds will provide some money (checking the article up to 33k from FEMA). I wouldnt expect the state to provide much since they are broke.

Woohoo.. Welfare for living in a flood zone while not having insurance to top it off. Get you some of that responsibility.
