Livingston a little higher at 22%, but that's still bad. Very eye opening article:

I actually remember people in New Orleans being happy and celebrating that they were not required by their mortgage company to have flood insurance. I'm sure many people around BR did the same.

I have a bad feeling about where this goes from here. Thousands of homes sitting untouched due to lack of resources to rebuild. Whole neighborhoods being abandoned. Hope I'm wrong.

I have it lived in a flood zone and didn't get flooded. shows that you never know. we have changed the natural drainage in some ways and Im sure of that. hopefully we can make improvements to the drainage to help prevent the widespread flooding if this were to happen again.

Im sure the Feds will provide some money (checking the article up to 33k from FEMA). I wouldnt expect the state to provide much since they are broke.

My sister and BIL don't have it and by some miracle their house was one of few in their subdivision of south harrell's ferry that did not flood. I told them you better get a policy as soon as this is over because next time you may not be so lucky.

When I was a mortgage loan officer, it was amazing how many people were glad they didn't have flood insurance.

flood insurance is cheap and should be purchased even if it is not required.

People with knowledge and disposable income are about to make a killing. Buy it cheap, gut it, fix it, sell it at market value.

It's mind boggling why someone wouldn't have it.

Auto,health,. etc

It's easy to say that at any point. Look, I am not being I told you so and I feel terrible that people are in that situation. It sucks, and I hope they can pull themselves through. I know I will be doing some volunteering effort.

That being said, South Louisiana is basically one gigantic swamp slowly leaking into the Gulf. Logic says you are way more apt to flood.

FEMA doesn't exactly come to the rescue.

When we flooded last year, I had about 10k in damages (HVAC, etc). Fema gave me $1100

Better than nothing, though.

Logic also says many of these areas have NEVER flooded. I'm not excusing anyone. Maybe some people liked the peace of mind of being able to say "I don't have flood insurance because I'll never need it".

Have it as well only pay like $550 a year for it with the $100k content coverage. Well worth it in my opinion just for my peace of mind.

Most people are under the impression that if they're not in a flood zone and/or it's "never flooded here before", that they don't need flood insurance.

Well, pretty soon we'll all be required to have it.

The whole state (southern half anyway) is a flood zone.
