That's an incredible chase scene. One of my sisters lived in S.F. for about 10 years. It was funny for her to see the chase in North Beach one minute, then moments later down by the zoo. She used to remark how much better traffic must have been in the early '70s.

It was also entertaining to try to count how many hubcaps got lost in the chase scene.

Filming car chase scenes back then they cleared the streets obviously.. Filming the chase scene in the French Connection
put an end to that... Now everything is CGI..

Pretty good chase scene in The Rock back in the 90's filmed in SF.

I grew up about a mile from Guadalupe Canyon Road where they filmed the final part of the chase scene, including where the guy dumped the motorcycle and the crash into the gas station. The Sheriff's Office had set up an area for people to watch the chase go by.

In the movie, the chase instantly went from the Marina Greens in San Francisco to Guadalupe Canyon Road in San Mateo County, about a distance of 7miles.

Side note; there is a scene early in the movie where two SMCSO Deputies walk into the hotel room at the Thunderbird Hotel (An old hotel that was just south of SFO). The Deputy on the right would be my training officer 10 years later and the Deputy on the left (the late Brendan Maguire) would become the Sheriff of San Mateo County (My boss) in 1983.

Wouldn't mind having the Charger from that race scene, too.

Such an iconic car. Surprised all the mustangs from the movie didn't find their way to collectors long ago.
