This was considered an attractive and popular hotel idea in the past? Does anyone here still pick these places?

It was what was available.

Things just had to be functional and reasonably priced back in the day. Now things must be fancy and overpriced.

Motels were for travelers passing through on road trips... not for people spending a week on vacation

There was no emphasis on style. It was all function, efficiency and convenience

What makes you think was viewed as popular and attractive instead of utilitarian when someone needs a room for a night or two?

That is a motel, not a hotel.

I do every time we travel to away LSU games because I'm poor and like to save my coins.
Check out where we stayed for the Florida Game in 22.
This one was bad. I will not stay there again.

Dammit, I feel left out. I'm not seeing the pic.

ETA: I see it now. That's just a motel. I don't see the issue.

On the road workers with trucks and tools use these a lot bc of access to parking lot close to room.

Motels were built on the edge of towns on major highways so people on road trips could sleep there for the night. Over time, cities have expanded around them, so people use them as a cheap longer stay option that was never really intended. That's just the way of the world.

If I'm traveling by car and just spending the night, I like those kind of motels. Park right outside your door and easy to bring suitcase inside.

If you're just going to smoke crack and rail some whores Hunter Biden style there's no reason to get all fancy.

I’ve seen this place on LivePD. The fact someone can see in if your smoke filled curtains are fully closed is bad enough.
