What's the name of his business? I may know him.

I actually love stories like this.

I called an old friend "out of the blue" several years ago, and asked what he'd been doing? We'd lost contact. His reply?

"You wouldn't believe it, man. I just took my first company public."

He's also a CPA, and when we were budding accountants, me/him/my wife/his wife were inseparable. Took vacations together, enjoyed "big ticket weekends" together (when one of us would buy a car, a boat, or a house, the other couple was generally present), we hunted together, our wives worked out/shopped together, etc.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Depends on what you mean by "living the dream".

I know a guy that's 25, has no job, and is broke, but he's living the dream IMO. He lives on his buddy's couch and plays golf everyday. Goes around to the various clubs and plays in the big money games and probably profits around $500 a week in cash. With no expenses that's not too bad.

kind of meant as a joke, but Mexico isn't the most fertile environment for grass roots entrepreneurs, drug trade does provide some opportunities

Don't know business names but I've never known this guy to own a car. Has been riding BMW motorcycles since high school. Think he even toured down in South America one year from what a mutual friend told me. Definitely a unique guy.

Being rich in Mexico is all fun and games until a fella involved in the cartel sees your BMW, cuts your head off, and speeds away in your vehicle.

Yes, it's rough. He was telling us stories about the "banditos" down there. Evidently this guy knows how to get around the system - he's been navigating it for decades now. Maybe his family has connections... don't know.

Yeah, we have three Mexicans here on work visas, and the people who harvest our cotton live right on the border. No shot in hell that I'd live down there.
