CBR1000RR did it at 182 or 185...couldn't focus, but that's what it looked like tucked in low.

Lesson for hwy speeders, I've raced in earlier years and the faster you go the quicker shite happens. It gets serious real quick.

My uncle that lives in Monroe used to have single prop planes and had some trick where if the set up was just right, he could make a pass over the interstate out of view of the cop and show up on the cop's radar. Said he would loop back and watch the cop with his lights on waiting to jump on someone going 150.

Maybe he was bullshitting.

Depends on the vehicle...

In a shite box like a Mustang... Hell know.

In an exotic who's suspension is built for it, it's fairly tame.

Probably registered at 175 initially then accelerated and topped out at 208.

I had a highly modified GT-R that I have been over 200 in several times. I used to to half mile airstrip race events all over the south. Car would go 0-200 in half a mile. I never tested top speed but similar cars went 230 ish at the Texas Mile. Car was really stable unless you got on the brakes too hard when it came time to slow down. I was never interested in going much over 200 as I knew thats all that Nissan tested the aero to.

Call ing BS on 19 year old having enough $ to make a 2011 mustang go 208. I know what it takes.

Tend to agree. That would be some serious aero/et.al. type work. Supercharged stupid people have been known to do really stupid things though.

I had a '95 300zx Twin Turbo in college that registered 160 and had a tick mark for 165, I pegged it out once. 140 several times, and that was fast, but that last 20-25moh from 140-160+ seemed like adding another 50 mph instead of 20. The faster I got, every little bit seemed a helluva lot more.

120 in that car was cruising. Big jump to 160+. I don't believe he went 175+ or 200+.

I have a heavily modded F-body, topped out at 186 according to gps. Friend has a 15 GT with a 2.9 Whipple, suspension mods with an e85 tune and he topped out at 192. I'm calling bs on the 208 but the 176 is certainly attainable.

Again, cops at their best just suck the fun out life. People need to quit whining about how dangerous stuff like this is.

Done 191 in my Audi RS7 with APR tuning pushing 650+hp and using 100 octane fuel on a private, closed airport runway outside Houston a couple years ago.

Every facet of the vehicle is examined before running that fast, with most attention paid to wheel/tire condition.

...the "200 club", while becoming a little easier to join every year, is still a big feat. That is frigging fast, and engine power required to attain this jumps exponentially when trying to get from 180 to 200+

Nonsense. I've driven (or seen) many cars that will easily do 200mph... Cars with well over 1000hp. Hell, my friend has twin turbo Camaro with a 1/4 mile trap speed of 150+mph.

That said, I'm highly suspect of those speed numbers quoted in the article. A Mustang ain't exactly a Bugatti Veyron at those speeds. Like you said, it's scary.

True, but a Veyron is good for another 30 mph above the claim the cop made. 176 is definitely doable with few mods. 200+ is also as well with some way more expensive mods. The car can be willing, but are the driver's twig and berries? I have no doubt that a modded late model Mustang can do it. Safe? No. Nothing in contact with the planet moving 200+ mph is ever safe. One wrong twitch gets you a closed casket.

Was wondering if someone would bring up the Texas Mile, 200+ MPH street legal cars are not uncommon at that event.

This GT500 turned 218 at the Texas mile in 2013

Yes, some of these cars are getting insane. A twin turbo Gallardo rolled at 209 mph this past weekend, luckily he had a cage. My buddy went 221 in his Alpha 16 GT-R at the same event. In HALF a mile. Some of the lambos are going 230+ now. Most of these people know that they don't even want to try the full mile as these cars would go near 270 if they had the long 6th gear.
