Every one I know in O&G is in Midland, and Midland sucks.

Good for them, Volvo probably should. However, they still make big trucks. Jaguar going all electric is just so weak to me. A brand with a racing heritage folding over to the pressure. It's a shame.

A lot more going on than just midland.

Stack/scoop OK, DJ basin CO, EF/Austin Chalk TX all have lots of action, but yes, the Permian and Delaware have the most land action right now. The Bone Springs and the Wolf Camp both come on high and stay there for a while.

Midland doesn't have a diversified economy at all, it's all O&G.

Of course, if you aren't in O&G, why live there?

Aren’t you a really young land guy? You won’t see the jobs. You guys are a dime a dozen and the ones that were laid off are just being brought back without the job being posted.

O&G will never be dead in Louisiana. Just a temporary setback, that will be eased when the Saudis decide they need to raise prices.

How you going to generate the power to charge all these electric cars?

I was about to post something like this as well.

Somewhat recently I had a discussion about global warming with a tree hugging liberal. She was actually surprised to learn that electricity is generated by burning of fossil fuels.

Until solar or wind technology catch up oils will be our main power source.

I'm in college right now but I'm thinking of transferring to a school somewhere like Midland (ideally elsewhere but that's definitely the spot in Texas) and working while taking night classes.

edit: field landman but eventually would like to go in house/may go to law school after I get my Bachelors

it wont be dead anywhere. Petroleum is used for damn near everything. transportation is a small part of it. Tires, belts, hoses, plastic, etc. It all requires petroleum products. What are those electric cars gonna run on without tires?

If you want to work in O&G you need to be involved in STEM. Getting a business degree or anything not related to STEM and trying to stick it out in O&G will lead you to a very early career change, unless you’re just a field hand.

No it’s far from dead but the industry is still in a slump. While activity levels are rising slightly the revenue is still extremely low which is going to dramatically slow down new technology developments and salaries for field and low level management willl remain low. Some areas of the world are suffering more than others.
