I had more time to spend with my kids my two weeks off than I do the 4 hours after I get off work before they go to bed. Sure, you miss days at a time, but you get days at a time. It's basically a wash in the end.

But I do have all the holidays and their birthdays with them.

Few ideas to get you started that I don't think have been posted:

HES Reps - Industrial Safety Solutions, Safety Management Systems

MWD - entry level, won't start off as a directional driller - Gyrodata, Scientific, MultiShot, Baker, Sperry (Halliburton)

Mud Engineer/Filtration/Compliance - MI SWACO, Baroid

Toolhand for Baker, Smith, SLB etc make bank but they're always out chasing jobs

I know a bunch of guys who leave their jobs to start as roustabouts, couple went up north as safety men, couple went back to their old jobs. It's all about what you and your family can handle.

my kids are so involved with activities that i don't see them too much when i'm home either. it's dancing, football, basketball every night. however, if i had ONE wish in life right now, I SWEAR ON MY LIFE THAT MY WISH WOULD BE TO KISS MY CHILDREN GOODNIGHT EVERY NIGHT.

if one thinks i'm full of shite, frick em.

I'm lucky to get to do it. Even if this job would have been less money, it would have been worth it for that reason alone.

Try power plant work. Don't have to go offshore and make good money.

Your local or regional electric company may be hiring.

Posted by Vol Fan in the Bayou Thanks. I have a college education and have my own company for years. Can I expect to start at roustabout? Thats cool, just need to know where to start?

Why the hell would you want to do that. There are millions of other positions that you could go after. That's better than a roustabout.

Vol. Try to get on with Halliburton or Weatherford as a Directional Driller Trainee...Even MWD.

I would not want to try and climb the ladder from Roughneck, Roustabout, Floor Hand, Derrickman, Motorman, Driller, Tool Pusher. Long row to hoe.

I think if you like Kenya, Nigeria, Congo, Ivory Coast or any other African Shithole...you can score bank...over 1k per day.

Thats part of the problem - and one reason I am more than willing to start at the bottom again. I know almost no one in the field.

I've filled out about 7 applications online today for offshore companies. I actually got tired of doing it and was gonna see what was happening on the OT and I found this good luck landing a job buddy!

Is this something you have to know someone or just start applying?

You can apply online, but if you do a bit of research you can figure out one of the local offices and go there and talk to someone there. It can be a plus if they can relate to you.
