I've been a few times before, so spare me the Times Square/Central Park/Freedom Tower nonsense. What are some good local secrets that I'm sure some of you know? Tell me some real hole in the wall places, especially restaurants, that I should consider for the weekend, or really any hidden treats within the city. Thanks in advance for any assistance you all can provide.

While not in the city, Cliff's Elbow Room in Jamesport has the best steak in the greater NY area. It's out on Long Island and definately worth the ride out there if you have some time to kill outside the city.

Couple restaurants I like. Not sure how hole in the wall they are but:
Pig and Khao
Motorino
Momofuku (Noodle or Ssam)
La Esquina (need reservation for the brassiere)
Johnny's Luncheonette

Hole in the wall bars:
Old Rabbit Club
Kettle of Fish
Wechsler's
Third Man
East Village Social
2A
WXOU Radio Bar
Orient Express / Turks and Frogs

ETA: Couple decent places I like to hit up for 2-1s until 8pm - 10 Degrees and Shoolbreds.

Go to The dead rabbit in the financial district. It is the best overall bar I have ever been to. This is where I go when I'm in New York for work

I miss NYC. Try to go every year but this year we will be on a cruise. I always try to go to China Town and Little Italy for an authentic meal but can't remember specific names of any place we've been to. One place I went to, somewhere on the East Side was a place called Tree. It was a really great meal. Some of the best places I have eaten at in NYC have closed down. Seriously sucks that even great restaurants struggle to stay open in NYC. If something comes to mind I will come back and post it. I need to look through my Facebook feed to see where all I checked in at in the past.

Joes pizza (slices) on 6th ave near Bleeker

Corner Bistro used to have good burgers back in the day

Keen's Steakhouse is an amazing hidden gem. They've been open since the 1800s and served both Roosevelt's, Macarthur, among others. Their scotch menu is 3 pages fronts and back. Be prepared to pay for it though, the wife and I dropped $200 for dinner between us the last time we went.

For drinks go to Dead Rabbits in the financial District. Head upstairs, not the taproom downstairs.

To the OP, start your day at either Everything Bagels on 3rd Ave or Brooklyn Bagel in Chelsea. Don't tell them to go light on the cream cheese and you probably won't need to eat again until dinner.

Last year, I went to Little Owl and Market Table for dinner, and enjoyed both tremendously.
