If he's breaking into multiple houses in a day where women are home, not taking anything, scared off by screams, and ultimately tries to put his hand over the mouth of a screaming woman - ie. he has no real plan and is not very good (yet) at handling captives/victims - then it's a safe bet he's a mental case. Color of his skin is irrelevant.
