NOPD hiring problem
"Of the 137 recruit files reviewed by the monitoring team, the team found "risk indicators" associated with 59 applicants."
The report indicates at least one or more applicants were previously arrested by NOPD. The response for the arrest listed, the report says, are "for intoxication and auto break-in."
Other risk indicators include "self-reported repetitive drug use," "deceptive mental illness to gain separation from an armed service," an unstable work history, a suspended driver's license, previous terminations and at least one professional reference indicating, "Do not hire."

NOPD is suffering from a severe lack of officers. While I do agree that you don't want to hire shitheads. On the other hand, people make mistakes and can learn from them. If some of these red flag applicants can show that some of their past actions are not indicative of their current self I don't necessarily see the problem with hiring them.

Typically, NOPD are sheer thugs with badges. They are one of the most corrupt departments in the country.

Are those bad things?

The only way to attract better qualified and skilled applicants is a pay raise. Pretty simple if those in power gave a damn instead of skimming all the money that could better Orleans Parish.

Absolutely. Also, make better choices with your superintendent. To put it delicately, Serpas wasn't well received by anyone in Nashville. What does New Orleans do? "Come on down, Ronal and make yourself at home!"

they retire in their 40s and early 50s with huge pensions...how many jobs do that? With all the overtime they bill they aren't hurting

Like hiring a few newbies with records is going to cast a bad light on the prestigious NOPD....

Broome's number one criteria for the new police chief will be that he's black. I could care less what his race is, but I'm concerned that she will bring in someone who will be lenient on criminals.

Ex Gf's dad was pretty high up in NOPD. Not top of the ranks, by any means, but he ran a dept, and they still worked him like a dog. I'm not standing up for the NOPD, by any means, they are incredibly corrupt, but it's just ridiculous to me how hard they pushed a career guy who had climbed the ranks. I'm sure the OT was great, but damn, not the life I'd want. If they were demanding that of him, imagine the shite the newer guys, making little to nothing, are dealing with.
