And that's what is really messed up in schools. Your kid gets bullied, so you teach your kid to stand up for himself and kick a bully's arse then it's your kid that gets expelled. You are left with the only option of teaching your kids to be a snitch

I think it depends on the school, the kid, and the parents. If a kid has a good reputation and is getting bullied and he decides to stick up for himself and knock the piss out of somebody, which I have taught my boys as a last resort, then I do not think he will get kicked out, maybe some in trouble but I have told them they will not be in trouble at home. So sad...how does a 9 yr old even know to hang himself to take his own life? I try to instill to stand up for yourself no matter what.

We don't know the details here. If he was diagnosed with a mood disorder(or had one that was un-diagnosed), I'm not going to lay into parents/guardians for not being able to stop it. The vast majority of you have no idea what it's like to live in that world.

My son is in the 3rd grade. He told me about this boy that bullies a lot of kids and has punched him in the face before. I told my son that I will beat his butt for being a bully but if he is being bullied and needs to defend himself, he will not get in trouble by me. He's a big kid, but this kid is 2 years older than him. He asked me what if he gets beat up, that kid is older. I told him it doesn't matter if you win or lose. Most bullies are cowards at heart. You hit that punk one good time, and he won't bother you again. The sad part is, that kid's parents are a couple POS themselves. So I kinda feel sorry for the boy.

This is a point that isn't expressed enough. More often than not, those who bully do so to protect themselves from some type of fear or they are insecure and they need to do something like bully others to make them feel better. Once you let them know they can't bully you around they will stop.

just terrible. i can't even begin to imagine how his parents must feel.

when i was about 8 or 9 my dad found out that a group of kids i was friends with were picking on a kid that had health issues. while my dad learned that i hadn't participated in the bullying he whooped my arse for not standing up to the kids who were doing the bullying. i never forgot that lesson.
