I just got put on a new project that will involve night work for about 3 months. Anyone here have any tips to help ease the transition?

Is this a night shift where you'll actually work?

I loved the night shift. turns out you can get more work done when you dont have useless people calling you about nothing all day long.

My wife has worked nights for 12 years. RN who only works 2-3 nights a week. You never get used to it.

DO NOT start luring raccoons into alley ways and killing them with a bow and arrow.
It's an easy habit to start but nearly impossible to stop.

Coffee lots of coffee.
Get you some blackout curtains for your bedroom.
Turn off the phone during the day, nothing worse than trying to sleep and some idiot calls trying to sell you something.

Clocks are for daywalkers, happy hour is when you make it.

Hang a dark blanket over your windows. Force yourself to sleep at night. Unfortunately, it takes months for your body to really adjust and it sounds like you'll be getting off the assignment around the time your body will truly adjusts. Maybe a beer or two in the morning when you first get off. Try to keep your sleep schedule on your off days

I used to rotate shifts quite often. I'm strictly day shift these days though. I will pick up a night shift every now and then to help out & also make a little extra money.
You'll learn to appreciate the sleep you get even if it's only a few hours a day. You'll also have to change your eating habits.

I don't drink coffee but it seemed to help others. I had a fan by my bed. It was soothing and drowned out the noise. lower thermostat too. Cold is your friend.

The really bad thing is if you're a light sleeper, the world doesn't stop and you will find out just how noisy your "quiet" little neighborhood is during the day.
