Why should there be repercussions for asking us to leave? Are they not a sovereign nation?

Not on the ground of the military base. That’s sovereign, US soil. There was a treaty signed between the two countries allowing us that land like an Embassy. Now, it may have been signed at the point of the bayonet, but one was signed.

It’s pretty amazing this never happened under Trump nor Obama. It’s kind of like the current executive is fricking hapless.

Is it reciprocal when this happens? Would any Nigerians living here be kicked out?

Evidently the new junta does not believe in the rule of law. What are we supposed to do. It's their country.

quote:

U.S. representatives are currently trying to negotiate a deal to maintain some sort of military presence in Niger. But, for now, Niger’s new ruling junta has declared that the U.S. military presence is a violation of Niger’s constitution. The fate of the U.S.‘ presence, including two military drone bases, remains uncertain.

In July 2023, Niger’s military successfully conducted a coup d'état and overthrew the democratically elected government. Military leaders arrested President Mohamed Bazoum and announced an end to the constitution and the government. The coup plotters set up their own government, a military junta called the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, to run the country – even as the president still refuses to resign.

Niger is kicking the US out of our $500 million dollar military base and handing it over to the Russia.

If we do leave the base needs to be leveled.

Australia is owned by China. Why do you think their C-word policies resembled China’s? They were absolutely Gestapo like and the most restrictive outside of China. They are completely dependent on them. It would not be a shock to see them become even more anti western in the next few years. Australia is nothing like it was 20 years ago.

It’s actually kind of confusing in English. They’re called NigeriEns. Whereas people from Nigeria are called NigeriAns

I’m so confused.

What exactly is happening here? Is this a hostage situation or do they want us to leave?

Happens when you have posters like OP who post garbage sources.

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The United States will begin plans to withdraw troops from Niger, U.S. officials said Saturday, in what experts say is a blow to Washington and its allies in the region in terms of staging security operations in the Sahel. The planned departure comes as U.S. officials said they were trying to find a new military agreement.

The prime minister of Niger, appointed by the ruling military junta, Ali Lamine Zeine, and U.S. deputy secretary of state Kurt Campbell, agreed on Friday that the two nations would begin to plan the withdrawal of American troops, the U.S. State Department told The Associated Press in an email Saturday.

A U.S. official said there was no timeline for withdrawal besides talks set to start in the coming days about next steps. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to detail the private diplomatic discussions. An American delegation to coordinate the details of the withdrawal process will be dispatched soon.

Might get an uptick of this stuff if other countries think they only have 6 months or so left of Joe Potato in the White House.

Natural resources. Same reason China and Russia want to be there.

Africa is flush with some good stuff.

Not that I agree with this, but that is a major reason why. They'll always give other reasons publicly.
