Kansas University (KU) officials have expelled a student for installing a hardware keylogger and using the data acquired from the device to hack into the school's grading system and chang his grades.

KU did not release the student's name to the public, but they said the keystroke logging device had been installed on one of the computers in its lecture halls.

The student used data collected from the device to change F grades into A grades. Professors said the incident would not have been noticed if the student didn't get greedy about modifications.

How the hell is this guy smart enough to hack into a university grading system but dumb enough to be getting F's in college?

He shouldn't have gone full blown retard and go from F to A. Also he should have gone half way between start and finish. Should have gone with a C.

Making good grades is more about effort and not being lazy than anything

The valedictorian of our HS class bombed out of college because he skipped class to play Xbox all the time.

This is 100% correct. When I interview a kid for a job, I look every bit as much at how long it took him to graduate and whether he worked a job during college as I do at his grades and classes. I will take a 2.99 four year grad who worked twenty five hours a week to pay his tuition every time over a five and a half year 4.0 student who had his college paid for by daddy.

How about a 10 year, dual degree, 2.00 over 7 years first go round and 4.0 second go round?

Asking for a friend.

To be fair, his method is not exactly rocket. Just drop a usb device between the pc and the keyboard, and retrieve it later.

A friend of mine graduated in Mechanical Engineering with a 2.7 and he was a little worried about his GPA. When he went on an interview for the job that he ended up getting, the guy pretty much told him right there he had the job and he told him "well my GPA isn't the best. I just want to let you know it is 2.7". He worked throughout college. The guy who eventually became his boss told him "oh, I am not worried about that. It was good enough for you to graduate".

As a student, all you should worry about is doing as best as you can. In college, you just have to put the work in and you will get through. Someone who has Fs simply didn't put the work in.

Do you also look at how many credit hours he earned during his time in college?

Nothing but truth right here.

I wish someone would have told me this when I was 19, would have saved me a whole lot of stress and money on tums and viviran.

I like to tell this story from time to time so I remind myself how stupid I was chasing pussy.

When I was a senior, I wanted to get with this redheaded junior so bad. She was fine as frog hair. We were sort of neighbors, as she lived pretty close to me. We would ride four wheelers, meet, make out, etc. but nothing got serious.

Now this girl was fine, but she wasn't bright - your typical average student. She had a bad grading term and was going to bring home an F. She was worried that she was going to get completely grounded (it was the 90s) and miss out on future social gatherings.

I was about the only person in my small town that had a home computer, so I printed her a report card. It would not have passed in this day and age, a 300 dpi inkjet printer couldn't get the crisp font, but it worked!

Fast forward a couple weeks and our local weekly paper printed the A-B honor roll. She wasn't on it, and her mom called the paper, who informed her the school gave them that list. She called the school and of course was given the correct information, and she rolled over me as quick as she could.

I was headed to a class when a friend of mine said, hey, I just saw your parents at the school. I thought that was odd and sure enough, I was called to the office, where my parents, the guidance counselor and principal were waiting. I got quite the speech. I was grounded for a solid month, and I never hit that, nor was I ever interested again.

Didn't read the article, did it say it was his own grades, maybe he was smart enough to be selling his services to other students that were flunking.
