New STD cases hit record high in US, CDC says

The agency's annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report shows that more than 1.6 million of the new cases were from chlamydia, 470,000 were from gonorrhea and nearly 28,000 cases were of primary and secondary syphilis. Secondary syphilis is the most contagious form of the disease, according to the CDC.
Only those three STDs are required by law to be reported to the CDC by physicians. When you include HIV, herpes and more of the dozens of diseases which can be transmitted sexually but which are not tracked, the CDC estimates there are more than 20 million new cases of STDs in the United States each year.

non-sexual transmissions (IV use primarily)
i imagine the tracking is due to some grant/law for sexually-transmitted areas and HIV is too muddy for that

Because one of the 2 primary ways you get it is not from sexual contact, so it would skew the numbers significantly.
If you don't take dick in the tail pipe and don't shoot drugs into your veins, it is super unlikely, as a man (less so for women), to contract HIV.

It would be high. For some reason the gays have never been keen on condom use even in the face of the fact that they are at the highest risk for HIV transmission.
Straight people use condoms for multiple purposes, STD prevention being just one. Gays cant get pregnant.
