As much as I do like New Orleans, I'd say Atlanta.

NOLA always something to do and not from from white sand

Atlanta. No comparison.

Dammit not this again.
ATL: live
NOLA: visit

NOLA: visit

Having moved to the ATL metro area I guess my answer is probably obvious
There are a lot of variables though. For me, I had more career opportunities here and I didn't care about being close to family. And honestly, I wanted to get out of LA, but not too far to drive to and visit.

NOLA by a comfortable margin. Atlanta is a terrible, terrible place

Never lived in ATL but have spent a decent amount of time there... New Orleans.

I've lived in Metro Atlanta for 23 years, so:

I will also add that I have been in Denver for about a month now and it kicks the shite out of both

Hands down North Atlanta including buckhead, marietta, alpharetta, dunwoody and Sandy springs.

Yep, here's your New Orleans culture, right here.
Having lived in both, I'd take Atlanta.
Of course, a lot of it has to do with your interests. In an hour, you can be in the North GA mountains from the Perimeter in Atlanta.
An hour from New Orleans you can be in......Bogalusa?

It just depends on what he's interested in lifestyle wise.
Atlanta is economically much more vibrant, but certainly doesn't have the charm or unique culture as New Orleans. Really just depends on what you want out of everyday life.
