Any of the older TDers remember or were in New Orleans during his rampage? The historic picture thread of New Orleans reminded me of the story.

(I had heard of this years ago when flying in the USMC. The general in charge of Marine aviation, Chuck Pittman, was the one who sent the helos that lit him up on the roof.)

200 bullet holes. How much of his body was left to determine that?

My dad was there as a policeman. I was 6 and remember watching it unfold on TV and ,my mom freaking out when they said that numerous policeman were killed. He ended up killing 10 policeman total I think.

I remember when it happened. That and The Rault Center fire happened within a relatively short time frame. It made me think that the world was going crazy.

Local hunters with deer rifles showed up to help the cops with Essex. Essex did some bad stuff in the days leading up to the sniping too. Awful times.

Met him at an officer's call at the O Club when I was a young 1st Lieutenant. Gen Pitman was a great guy and enjoyed his adult libations.

We heard his arse was in deep shite with the USMC but a lot of local New Orleans big wigs went to bat for him.

There were about 200 guys crammed into one of the few classrooms that had a TV. One of the teachers stuck his head in, looked around and said "Boy, I'd hate to have to teach THIS goddamn class!"

Lots of folks were in the 60s and 70s, but you're right.

Never had heard about this before but from the dicumentary I just watched on it, they said there were 5 officers and 4 civilians killed along with 13 others wounded. Id be very interested to hear stories from people that were there including the black maid they let live. Apparently they told black folks they had mothing to worry anout as they were only killing white people that day.

The Waco siege in 1993 was a siege of a compound belonging to the religious group Branch Davidians by American federal and Texas state law enforcement and US military.
