How'd you get out of serving on SWBs team?

You sure you don't want to get in on the wagering relative to how long it will take for at least one of those houses to be (a) tagged with graffiti, (b) broken into, or (c) burned to the ground?

So how does this grant work? Are we to believe $3.1MM went into these 19 homes?

Sometimes shite gets so bad that it can't be fixed. That's why I'll move out of BR and LA when I get the chance.

Parents are the number 1 factor. Having a dad present to whip your arse when you get out of line would do wonders for that community

in almost every decent sized city there are plenty of mixed income housing. I can almost guarantee there are some in your precious 70808.

Let's hope the best for these places. This is our tax dollars. Yeah I wish the people spending the money would do their diligence in making sure to keep this property up and to live up to its potential and not treat it like it's only a photo-op ribbon cutting....

It's like a child an 18 yo that graduated a 30 day rehab, you praise and hope the best for the dude. You don't come out the gate with 'ahh give him a year and he will be back on the shite'.... because you know that kid could be robbing your shite in the next year.

That's not too far from the Cadillac street projects. I did some work on those 4plexes a few years back. Every day the buses would start rolling in bringing the kids back from school, and every day that EBR super would show up while they were rolling in and tell us to leave, because the kids were dangerous.

I've been trying to convince my wife of the same thing. We can move, get paid the same or more, put the kids in a good public school and save that 22k while living in a nicer area. I love my hometown but it's obviously going the route of Jackson, Nola or Birmingham.

and not addressing where the kids spend the other 16 hours of their day won't do any good.
Most don't spend that time in the house, they're in the streets.

I'd rather see that $2 million go to after school programs and things like that.

They have to have better mentors and realize they can make it without just being a professional sports athlete, rapper or drug dealer.

As someone who used to be in the streets, I know just as well as any honest person who's witnessed it, that's what most of them think.

The ones who do try to do right are made fun of until they end up falling into the same trap. When I used to go buy dope, they would sell in front of their kids, with their kids or with other family members.

Until shite like that stops, the cycle won't end, I don't care how much money you throw towards housing. That's why I think that investment in after school programs to keep these kids off the streets and around people who actually care about their futures would be more beneficial than putting new homes in the same run down hood.

And about the us vs. them attitude, it works both ways. It's shitty no matter how you look at it, but that's what happens when beliefs/values differs so much.

Oh no doubt there are houses around my area around 100k to 140k. The difference is that I don't have to worry about these people fricking with my shite.

well the percentage of people that would do this and try and frick up their own community out of jealousy and lack of respect need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

Thinking that everyone in the community is a despicable human is a fallacy. Painting with a broad brush or being in an us vs them mindset is part of the reason we are at this crossroads.

Having a place to be proud of and call yours and not letting the place continue to erode is actually part of thof broken windows theory.

The route of the problem isn't that they need new housing. It's education. I'd rather see that $2 million be invested in education for them. Somehow, some way.

That ain't how federal dollars work though. It most likely had to be spent on a project like that, or the money gets taken away.

I get what you are saying. I'm all for spending tax dollars towards getting the kids all the help they can.

But you honestly aren't equating the drug dealers you bought heroin from to everyone in that community are you?

Holy outlier bro

Come the frick on

I have a relative that has a contract to fix/remodel Section 8 properties off of Plank. I can confirm that this is accurate. They schedule work so that they aren't in the area when the school buses start dropping off the kids.

Luckily they didn't put many windows in there. These are basically brick boxes that will be in complete disrepair within a year.

It's a small percentage of the black community, which causes the vast majority of the mayhem. Single parent families are the main cause of the many thugs which disengage from society at an early age. There is no self discipline/do the right thing/take advantage of every opportunity to improve yourself, which is taught/ingrained into these individuals. Did these kids get a bad break....hell yeah, but it's ultimately the PARENTS duty, to see to the decent upbringing of their offspring ! This responsibility cannot be legislated/well-fared/excused/"I'm a victim'd" away !
