Wanting keep it under $500 for irons.
Any recommendations?
I've bought several drivers woods and wedges from 3balls golf on ebay. You can find some killer auction prices in his store if you are patient. Everything I have gotten from him has been legit. 3Balls
Edit: Forgot to mention he is a authorized TaylorMade seller so anything you buy from him new will come with the full factory warranty. TaylorMade dealers
Everything in my bag TaylorMade except for my Studio Stainless Newport 2 putter I've had since 2007.

I bought some Callaway Apex forged last year for $400. 4-6 had not been hit. Basically brand new with KBS C Taper shafts. You just have to look around for deals.

I'll sell you a set of Mizuno JPX EZ forged
You should buy these. Best clubs for the price he's giving you, easily.

For drivers. Irons, Mizuno and Titleist reign supreme. Ping is great due to the fitting system, but if you get fitted properly Mizuno and Titleist are the best quality.

I didn't much care for the feel or sound of the JPX850. It's more GI. I might play tomorrow. Could do Beaver Creek if you want to try the 54s.

The best advice you can get if you are looking to go this route and keep it under budget will be to buy a good set of used FORGED irons, not cast. If you aren't settled into a swing, forged irons can be fitted several times with no damage but cast is very limited to what you can fit them to.
Then take the used set of irons to a pro and have them fit some nice steel shafts in them. What ball flight do you have now, low or high? What do you want to have after you get shafts? How fast do you swing or how far do you hit an iron, any iron?
