This week, Chevrolet announced that its new 2017 diesel Cruze will get a jaw-dropping 52 mpg on the highway, making it the car with the best fuel economy among non-hybrid and non-electric models in America. Chevy says that means the car can drive an estimated 702 miles on a highway before it runs out of diesel.
The 1.6L, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine has 137hp (102kW) and 240lb-ft (325Nm) of torque, as you’d expect from a diesel passenger sedan. (For comparison, the gas-powered 2017 Chevy Cruze gets 177lb-ft [240Nm] of torque.)
The 52 mpg highway fuel economy numbers apply to the six-speed manual transmission diesel Cruze, which gets 30 mpg on city streets. The car also comes in a 9-speed automatic transmission version, which returns 47 mpg on the highway and 31 mpg in the city with start-stop technology regulating the engine.

Urine car, bet it's very expensive.

Better hope the emissions are within regulation.

The sedan will start at $24,670.
Starting MSRP on a new Prius is $24,685, and the fuel is at least $0.30 cheaper per gallon with the same highway mpg, (not to mention that the Prius gets better mileage in town than on the highway).

the same highway mpg,
yeah, but i've heard many an Uber driver complain that they don't get anywhere near advertised MPG on highway.
not that i'd buy a Cruze either. and the diesel $ premium definitely militates against it. and it's a chevy.

Mir. You can waste money on fuel so you feel better about your sex appeal. The whole planet celebrates this engineering marvel.

This was a marvel 40 years ago.
You sound upset. If you eat all your chicken tendies I'll let you sit on my lap while I drive my truck

You have to eventually replace the batteries in the Prius after several years. That can set you back almost $4,000 out of warranty.

Getting the advertised mpg for a Prius is pretty simple. I cruise between 75-80 on the interstate and am usually within 2 mpg of the rating. When I actually try, getting 52-55 mpg is not terribly difficult.

You left off the part about it having over 200 ft-lb of torque. It won't be nearly as slow as the hp numbers alone indicate.

What's the acceleration like in the Prius?
Posted on 2/17/17 at 2:13 pm to Street Hawk
Comperable to the Volkswagen TDI
I'll buy one.

This isn't an issue until after hundreds of thousands of miles, if it's ever an issue. At least with the 2010-up models.

0-60 around 9 seconds. Not fast at all, but enough to not be unsafe. You're not gonna be passing people easily, but it's perfectly fine for commuting.
