New cell phone with 2 year contract - Verizon

So I haven't had a contract since 2006. Looking to renew. Don't need a phone but I get a free droid maxx or a another type for $100. Can I take the new phone and sell it as long as I don't activate it?

You can always sell it off I'm not mistaken. Probably have to activate it under the new comtract, but you can go and switch it back to your current phone and sell the one you just got after.

I think Verizon is doing the new thing where you have to pay full retail price for phones now

They are, but I'm not sure when they are starting that, if they haven't already.
Also, if you're already on a "contract" plan, you can continually renew it over and over... At least until Verizon decides to "ungrandfather" that option.

The only way I can get a 2 year contract is because I'm already a customer. So I qualify for a discounted phone. My contract is so old that the newer ones with just the wife I can save like $60/month. I lose my unlimited but I don't use more than 4 gigs a month in the last year. Well have 12gigs to share.
In short: save $60/mo. Lose unlimited. Sell expensive phone?

I don't think they'll give you a new phone at a "contract" price without making you activate it in the store. So selling it wouldn't be an option, as the ESN will be invalid.

You can always re activate your old phone if your current one os givong problems. It's fully withing their rules to sell your phone and somekne else activate it on their account (my dad has used my old phone).

It started last Thursday. No more subsidized phones. You can pay it all up front or pay it monthly over 2yr contract.

8/13 I believe. I called about it today, and my plan would go up $40/mo for 6GB more

Yes you can sell it. For a limited time, they are still selling them for a discounted price with a new 2 year contract. Upgrade online and when you get the phone in, don't activate it. I've done this multiple times. I have a dumby line so I can get a new phone every year. Depending on what's out, sometimes I would get a new one for me and other times sell on eBay.

If you sell your phone while it's still activated on your account, the buyer will not be able to activate it in their account UNLESS you call Verizon with the buyer also on the line and you both talk to the rep to make the switch...
That's how I had to do it when I swapped my HTC One for a Note 2 a couple years ago with someone who wanted the HTC.
If you have already deactivated the phone and have bought a new one and activated the new one you will be able to sell the old one, however sometimes it can take weeks for the old phone's ESN to clear from Verizon's system and show as a clear ESN for someone else to activate it.

Good to know. I'll get it and sit on it to make sure the esn is clear.
Thanks
