Got a quote for new Heater/Coil/Condenser for about $5500 for a 3.5 Ton 14 Seer American Standard Silver system. Anyone know if this price sounds high? LSU Dad around to refer me to some HVAC guys?

I am doing a repo remodel right now and I just bought a complete Goodman 3 ton with the line set and heat pump for $1450. That's both units but that's also using a national account I have access to that buys in bulk.
I will gladly come install one for you for $4K profit. It'll probably last as long as your American Standard too.

AC installation in general is God awful high. Seen lots of these threads lately. Get multiple quotes for sure.

FYI, no matter what name you buy, all of the units now days are made by like 3 or 4 manufacturers. They are all essentially the same.

I have a Goodman, and just had to replace a capacitor. Young unit.

I have replaced the capacitor in my goodman every 2 years
So get used to it, maybe even learn to DIY

Definitely learn to replace a capacitor. Ridiculously easy. Youtube is your friend for other things.

Do not let anyone sell you a Frigidaire unit. Thank god I bought the 10 year parts and labor.
Goodman sucks too. We replaced the heat exchanger every year.
Eta: I paid about 7k for mine 3.5 or 4 ton. But I also had a good bit of duct work done too.

I've had two since I built this house in 99. One 3 ton and a 4 ton for each side of the house. All i've ever had to do was change one capacitor on the small unit and bypass the 5 minute delay timer board on the large unit in the 15 years i've had them. The programable thermostat makes the timer board obsolete so if yours ever fails just bypass it if you have a programable thermostat. I'd say they have been extremely reliable and low cost for me. I paid 8K to have both installed with duct work during construction. If they failed tonight I have gotten my moneys worth. I'll upgrade to the 410 refrigerant units when these go out.

I went through this with river city 1 hour air. They came fix my unit, said it was gonna go out soon and I should purchase another. Quoted btw. 5.5 to 7K depending on the unit. I asked around and found a reputable independent guy to come look at the system. He said don't bother buying a new one, everything works fine and should for awhile. Told me if I ever needed to look into it, to call him first, he can usually find a better deal than the big companies.

That's a bit high. I replaced a 5 ton 14 seer last summer for 5500.

I think 1 hour ac tells everyone their unit is going to go out soon. They told me I needed to replace mine 3 years ago. Claimed hvac systems only last 10 years. Wanted 7k. Called someone else and they replaced capacitor and system ran like new.

Yeah, guess my point was to avoid these big companies and don't listen to whatever they say is wrong with the system.

i mean they could have fixed just the problem for $1200 or replaced just outside for $2000. my inside unit is ancient so just decided to get it all replaced
