Guns aren't the problem.
People are.

agree on a countrywide scale and all that, but also factually, Louisiana has 2 of the top 30 murder by capita one of which is in the top 10.

So yes, there is a downward trend, but major cities are still very dangerous, and especially in Louisiana, Maryland, and Illinois.

Right, but it still is laughable perception wise. Some people think Nola is more dangerous than its been in the past.

I think last year was the lowest murder # since the 60's in Nola. Major improvement is still needed

The last thing I want is stringent gun control. The second amendment is not up for debate. Period.

I refuse to live in a world where I can't protect myself and my family from the crazy frickers that have nothing to live for doing the killing. There will never be stringent gun control in this country. There simply are too many guns to control.

There are too many other laws broken on a daily basis for you liberals to come after the law abiding citizens' only protection.

Violent crime has actually declined significantly since the 70's when shite was really unsafe. New York exhibit A.

As another poster said all these news channels, news sites, and our social media addiction have to fill time with something.

How many stories do you hear about a good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy with a gun? Many are buried by the media because they don't feed the anti gun agenda. Many more are never reported. I've had several instances where things got too close for comfort in New Orleans and the simple flashing of my concealed carry diffused the situation before it escalated. 5 on 1 becomes equal REAL QUICK when they see the 9. Instead of reading my obit in the Tribune the next day, everyone just goes about their own way.

Are you really afraid of ISIS? Dude had an AK and got his arse beat by an Airman and a Guardsman from Oregon.

bullshite. There can be a middle ground with background checks and mental health data becoming more readily available.

No one's trying to take your guns. The problem is that there are very few reasonable people on either side willing to have a discussion, period

Obviously to an extent, but I do think its very bad right now.

Lafayette movie theatre shooting
Lake charles cop shot over weekend
7 shootings in nola last night with 2 year old victim?
People stabbed/shot in sunset just now...

That's a little above average.

Ok - your thread is "It's becoming a little dangerous out there". Are you talking about Louisiana specifically? You can't take only 3-4 unrelated incidents, just because they happened only days or weeks apart, and make a conclusion that the sky is falling. It's likely more of a coincidence than actual trend. If you see a drastic increase in these type of incidents for months continuously, then it would be reasonable to be concerned.

All stats you find reflect that the world is actually safer than ever before.

Also, crime statistics are skewed due to how they are reported. Behind all police forces who report crime statistics are politicians who are trying to make themselves look good.

The FBI's data collection has helped with this along with the increase in mobile technology.

This was WAY more of an issue years ago, and we've seen a major increase in domestic violence and sexual crimes as a result.

The real nonsense in the "skewed statistics" argument is that is depends upon the earlier statistics from the same source not being skewed. I.e., it's just an intellectually bankrupt argument at its base.

Why don't you try using your words and putting an actual argument or stance together?

Maybe tell me why I'm wrong or how I am talking out of my arse.

Out of curiosity, do you think you can currently buy a handgun in this country without a background check or as a documented mental health patient?

Show me in the Constitution where a Doctor is to determine who shall bear arms. There is no middle ground because the Bill of Rights says so. The last thing I want is a doctor that is now covered under the federally mandated healthcare act.

And just think about the crap that goes unreported.

We need to shift our whole culture and paradigm of thinking back towards the "Mayberry" feel-good times. It starts with our politicians and all forms of media.

This is a very simple topic. If I have to explain it to you, you aren't going to get it anyways. I've provided as much of an argument as you have, and I'm happy to stay there. Provide something useful, and I'll gladly debate it with you.

Actually, the fbi can only report what's reported to it

Was it on here that I read the article about nola's trouble with misclassifying crimes?

The bill of Rights guarantees arms as a means of a state militia.

I'd be all for all gun owners swearing allegiance to a state militia and agreeing to only use their guns in self defense, sport, or official call from the state. Violation of this oath results in mandatory life sentence.
