Agreed

Plenty of conservative physicians or nurses would tell you 2&3 aren't worth it, although obviously you can mitigate risk. Seems like the football evidence is there overall, I doubt a year of middle school football really poses much risk.

But what's the rationale for #4? Because they're scary?

My suspicion is that shooting a shotgun leads to hunting which leads to hunting accidents etc.

It’s a poor argument considering the other 3 are well documented and proven.

Damn - all activities (except 4 wheelers which weren’t around then) that us boomer kids did on a regular basis. I’m fixing to turn 74 and everything is still working ( for the most part).
Times have changed !

They just described much of my childhood although we had 3 wheelers and go carts.

Shooting a gun doesn't seem to fit with the other 3 (with obvious potential head injuries).

But the 'doctor' is OK with kids playing video games for hours on end? Quack.

A few bones, a few cuts and bruises were the natural results of childhood back in the day.

If you want to create paranoid, neurotic pussies, the advice in the OP is exactly how you get one.

I thought it was going to be all device/TV, school indoctrination, standing up to bullies, and pedo-safety related.

Alas, no. Those don't make the list.

The risk isn’t recoil but overpressure from the explosion. Large caliber rifles have been proven to cause TBI over time, I doubt a kid shooting a .22 is any risk but there is probably an argument for a child shooting a standard rifle round.

I can see you've never fired a 556 round.
