I need a new washer and dryer.

Preferably top load washer. Just normal units. they dont have to do anything fancy.

I have not shopped for these items in a few years so Im not really sure what the better ones are.

Any recommendations?

I am waiting on the repair man for my 5 year, two month old LG washer right now. He came the other day and had to order parts. Gonna be around 450 dollars and he said lg keeps him in business. Warrenty was 5 year btw.

Home Depot has a sale for washer and dryer for $1000 for Samsung right now. Save $500.

Less bells and whistles the better. Older Kenmore or Whirlpool won't break and are available used all over the internet.

The ones with computers and shite all break and are expensive to fix.

We've been happy with our Maytag Bravos XL. Top load washer.

I work on appliances. If you want an appliance that will outlast anything. Get a Speed Queen.

If you just want a basic washer and dryer that will work day in and day out, get the CHEAPEST washer you can find and it's matching dryer (all dryers are basically the same, differences are more in washers)
I used to say Roper, but Roper has gone to computer control now, so I recommend the HotPoint line, turn the knob, if you can't hear constant clicks, then move on. You do not want anything with a computer control.

If anyone said "Cabrio" disregard anything they ever say again.

I'm leaving in 10 to install a control on an LG washer, I'm charging $385 for that. Then later I have to change a motor on an LG dryer.
They do keep us going.

Go in store and see what floor models are marked down. Did that at Home Depot and got a front loading Samsung for $550, normally $900 but reduced due to a scratch, and got a Samsung Dryer for $600. Had both for a year and a half with absolutely no complaints.

This guy knows more about washer and dryers than the rest of the board combined most likely.

So when he says this:

I'd listen.

I definately take note when Napoleon speaks appliances.

Thank yall for your feedback. I just want an easy/no frills combo.

I have 2 great units but I just sold my house and the buyer added them into the contract. I obliged if that is what it would take to move the house.

Nap - I'm not giving up my early 90s Maytag washer for anything, but I'm going to file this for future reference - and I have a question -

Are any of the new Maytag models built like the old ones? Have they gone to all computer control, as well?

Thanks and keep up the fight, baw.

Samsung fixed their biggest problem, which was mounting the water pump to the base of the tub. That issue actually led to them making a retrograde kit. You can't even get the old pumps, you have to install a new wiring harness, new floor based pump and hoses. After that it seems fine.
Samsung has really good build quality and they constantly improve. The Koreans grab a larger market share ever year and advancements like that sink are a reason why.

Also, they and LG have much cheaper electronics than GE and Whirlpool and that helps. (and no core fees)

I wouldn't steer anyone away from Samsung or LG. Just that they do have some issues here and there.

It really depends on what the consumer wants. I think the front load fad is tapering off and there is a large return to top loaders now.

Asko is great, finding someone to work on them is not. In NOLA, only SOLAR will touch them.

So you don't think that new one with the sink is a huge gimmick?

I have a semi-novel idea for you.

Have you ever used the app “VarageSale”? It’s similar to craigslist but its not sketchy because it isn’t anonymous. There are tons of classic Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore washer and dryer sets for sale in Nashville on it. I have bought and sold on it and its great. The interface is like Pinterest (I think owned by Pinterest) and its incredibly easy to use. Private messaging between buyer and sellers on the app is great too. You can filter down by categories, search for specifics in your area, etc.

Maytag is just a line of Whirlpool now.

All Maytags are just Whirlpools with a different look, like Kenmores of the last thirty years.

They use the Verticle modular washer design currently present in the Whirlpool line. They no longer have direct drive motors, instead going for a belt drive or a rotor/stator drive.
Now Whirlpool is still "innovative" and tries new ideas and advancements, while Maytag only seems to stick with the Whirlpool designs that work.
So they are still of a high quality, and mostly USA made, but they are similar to Whirlpool now, and not really the stand alone quality company they once were. Though they are going back to the "dependability first" model.

Also, I focus on what fails, more than what works.

Nurse, that commercial has peaked Ms Pop's interest also.
