While this might not be the best place to get advice for all situations, this time it seems appropriate.
Myself and my SO are in Nola to hang out with friends from out of town. We live on the Northshore. We dropped our friends off at the Hilton Riverside a short time ago. She walked them into the lobby while I waited in the car(3 min or so). While waiting, a driver rear ended her parked car that I was sitting in the passenger seat. There is definite cosmetic damage.
I requested the driver of the other vehicle stay until we could get a damage of propert report. He left, but I did get a photo of his drivers license and plate. He was an arse about the whole thing, first pretending that he was unaware that he hit the car, then trying to claim it was illegally parked.
I verified the hotel has security footage of accident location. I'm sitting in the lobby waiting for NOPD now. It's been an hour and I'm tired. I want to go home but it annoys me that this a-hole will have no recourse if I do.
Any suggestions?

I just went through this crap on UF's campus.
Hit and run and the driver was issued a summons. Sorry to say it's best to wait for the police. I would call NOPD again to see if they could give you an ETA.
It's been since October 11th and I'm still waiting on insurance to settle.

sounds like you're taking the right course of action.

Stay off the streets of New Orleans at 3 A.M.

It's private property and not a public street. Police probably won't issue citation but may file police report. Submit to your insurance carrier if you want to pursue.

Unless you're wealthy, legal recourse is inefficient and unjust. The system is designed to make profit not peace and certainly not justice.
You're going to have to be a man here and seek your own retribution. I'd suggest banging his wife, daughter, son or mother depending on his situation and your tastes.
