haswell model

I consider these to all be roughly the same price. If $70 is that big of a difference to you, none of those are really bad, but this one is probably noticeably the best (if that makes sense). It's also good because in the future, if it ever starts "slowing down," you can add more RAM for fairly cheap (about $30, not the $100 they want to charge you).

Also, whatever computer you get, post on here when you get it or email me at hopefuldoctd at that google company's email place and I'll show you how to go through and tweak some very very minor things that will make any windows computer run better.

Does a touch screen laptop appeal to you at all? There are plenty down in this price range with similar specs.

Out of the ones you listed I'd go with the HP ProBook 4530s

If I were buying a laptop right now I'd probably get an Asus.

I currently have a Toshiba that I got back in 2010. It's not bad, but it's beginning to show its age.

Top computer you linked is closest to the one I found but yours has an AMD processor. I would not get the other 3 especially for the prices they want. I say still go with the one from Micro Center with the Intel I-5. For the price and the specs it's solid and as the ability to upgrade in the future and will not go obsolete in 1 year.

I still say the one from Micro Center is a better model. It cost $599 compared to $529 but the Micro Center one has an I-5, 8G of Ram upgradable to 16G, Windows 7 Pro, Bigger Hard Drive, and a dedicated Radeon graphics Card.

Other computers users have suggested are good models but for the price the Micro Center one has more bang for the buck. You get more for not much more money.

I will agree with Bama hater that the micro center one was the best deal... I cannot vouch for micro center because I have never used/heard of them though

Wrench in the whole thing:
Lenovo if you want to spend $600 and get better specs than elitebook with a nice build

this probook if you want a probook

ETA- top ships with win 7 and 8 so you can see which you like better. Bottom is 8 only. But again, 8 is fine and will be the new standard soon enough.

I used to work there and it is the best place to buy a computer. They carry all the stuff places like Best Buy does not. Plus they actually have people that work there who know what they are talking about. Thing is they only have 25 stores nationwide. Closest to Louisiana is stores in Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta.

I'm going to sleep. If he still hasn't decided by tomorrow, and I'm in front of a computer screen (rather than typing on an iPhone), I'll try to do a better job of picking out what I would spend $600 on. I usually spend hours scrutinizing over all the tiny details and nuances of people's "help me find a laptop" threads. I'm really phoning this one in tonight.
