Need advice: passport related UPDATE

So I'm going to DR June 3rd, I went to post office Monday April 27 for passport. Paid the extra fee for it to be expedited (they claim that's 2-3 weeks).
Well, about 10 days later I get an email stating that they need more identification. I'm not sure why. I provided the front/back copy of my driver lisc, original birth certificate, plus photo.
They said they need at least 5 more forms of ID, with pictures, and dated OVER 5 years ago!! Who the hell keeps this stuff?
Some examples were: old traffic tickets, old year books ect.
So I found a bunch of old stuff in the attic at sent copies of everything (old hunters safety ID, my old pharmacy liscences, stuff like that)
So, here we are 11 days away, I've been calling everyday. No one can tell me anything but "it's being processed"
Plus Monday's a holiday,
What should I do? Anyone had a similar situation?
Anyone ever applied for a passport with plenty of time before the travel day and NOT gotten it in time?
Thanks
So, I decided email to my local congressman Gary Palmer in Hoover, AL (as recommended by cosmokramer) not expecting a reply. Tuesday I get a call from his secretary and wouldn't ya know it, the next day it was done. Passport in hand now. Can't wait for the Domican!

I think they are stricter for that stuff for expedited passports
ETA and maybe I'm a closet horder, but I keep EVERYTHING that I can when it comes to old documents. You should probably do the same from now on

Same thing happened to me, the issue I had was that I had a Louisiana license and I was trying to get my passport in Pittsburgh. They wouldn't accept Louisiana as a valid form of identification since it wasn't a regional state. Anyway, after I sent them old pictures, traffic tickets and things of that sort, I received my passport about a week after that.

That's gotta be it, I live in Alabama now but still have Louisiana ID.
So if they got all my EXTRA stuff on FRIDAY may 15, I should be ok?

Same. The best long term investment one can make is buying a legit file cabinet. It will save your arse at times like this and especially tax time. Just take 1 minute a day filing away whatever you received that day and you will never have to worry about anything.

Needed a passport card for my minor child to go on a trip with a large group. I paid the expediting fee as well. The guy at the post office told me the photo I supplied would not be acceptable, so I paid the post office to take another picture. A week later I get an email, then a letter that the photo was not acceptable.
I called and ask how the hell the photo taken by their own representative was not acceptable. Had to get another picture taken and overnight it to passport office. Got the passport card 4 days before the trip.

Pretty trashy of you to wait until a month before your first international trip to secure your passport. Something you should get and maintain from the time your 15.

A co-worker applied for one a month or two back. Her issues included the hospital she was born in had closed and her birth certificate was tough to get. It was Texas, don't ask me why.
Long story short, she got her passport express delivered to her the day after she returned from her trip. The trip was to Niagara Falls, but she wasn't able to go into Canada as planned.
She called to complain and was told the whole process takes longer because that job is contracted out now. So, there you go.
