Navy SEALs to open to women, top admiral says

The Navy is planning to open its elite SEAL teams to women who can pass the grueling training regimen, the service's top officer said Tuesday in an exclusive interview.
Adm. Jon Greenert said he and the head of Naval Special Warfare Command, Rear Adm. Brian Losey, believe that if women can pass the legendary six-month Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, they should be allowed to serve.
"Why shouldn't anybody who can meet these [standards] be accepted? And the answer is, there is no reason," Greenert said Tuesday in an exclusive interview with Navy Times' sister publication Defense News. "So we're on a track to say, 'Hey look, anybody can meet the gender non-specific standards, then you can become a SEAL.'"
The push to integrate the storied SEAL brotherhood is coming on the heels of a comprehensive review led by Losey, the head of Naval Special Warfare Command, that recommended women be allowed under the same exacting standards required of male candidates. The Army and Air Force are also moving to open all combat jobs to women, according to officials who spoke to the Associated Press. It's believed the Marine Corps may seek to keep its ground combat jobs, including the infantry, male-only.
The move to integrate the military's most storied commando units comes the day after news broke that two women had passed the Army's arduous Ranger course. Nineteen women began the course, which has about a 45 percent passing rate.
The Navy has said it is on track to open all ratings to women by next year, but this is the first indication that the SEALs are leaning toward accepting candidates. Greenert didn't specify a timeline for allowing women candidates into BUD/S training.

It is not in a woman's personal interest to fight in combat. It puts her in a very unhappy position. I do not believe that any good woman would want to be in that position.

Didn't they already let women enter training and they all failed fairly quickly?

The problem is when the first woman dies inevitably and her family sues and the lunatics we have on the Supreme Court legislate how the SEALs are allowed to test members.

if a girl can actually pass the exact sam BUDS that the seals pass and the rest of a team trust her. I have no problem with it. But they will not pass BUDS and no way in hell a team would trust her unconditionally.

shite.
Why are we not allowed to recognize there are basic physical and psychological differences between genders? Elite male soldiers are better suited for combat than elite women. Its not debatable.

They'll 100% pass a few, or face a lawsuit from the ACLU. After the women pass, they will be doing desk duty because of their inability to control their emotions in stressful situations

I demand they lower the standards for overweight persons.

If they can pass the same physical endurance tests the men pass, I have no problem with it.

As a former Marine, I say this is shite. This PC crap is getting out of control. In 15 years we'll have the military of Greece with the economy to go along with it. We're being destroyed from the inside out. That is all.

I cringe the day they let women into my mos I know it's coming but frick. I went 60+ days with limited food and water no showers eating at times stray dogs( better than goat for what it's worth). I like women but hell no I don't want them next to me for that period of time nor would they want to be there with me.

I really, really, really want to believe that SOCOM will tell the ACLU to get bent if (when?) such a lawsuit is filed...
