My stupendous three-day Father's Day weekend in Denver (kinda long)

Some good planning but also some really great luck, which can often be what puts something already great just over the top to near perfection...
So I've been here in Denver for five weeks for work. This weekend was my off weekend (Sat-Tues) and my 16-year-old son flew in Saturday to spend it with me. Pretty basic that day. I picked him up and we went straight to the mountains to try to see some Buffalo (no luck) and go to Lookout Mountain, where Buffalo Bill is buried. Enjoyed the sights up there quite a bit but left to get back to go have wings and nachos and watch the Tigers take on FSU. Obviously a nice end to Saturday there.
On Sunday we went to the Rockies-Giants game. Started up in the Right Field Rooftop section, which is really awesome. Around the end of the 8th though we moved around to the other side of the field and down to the bottom right next to the foul pole. This is where the great luck happens. First, DJ ties the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th. Then this happens:
Arenado walk-off
So the first half of the day is done and hard to top. We passed through the merchandise shop and I got my son a #9 Lemahieu shirt, which he was dying for, and we headed out. From there we went straight to Red Rocks for Portugal. The Man. My first time ever there and his first concert period. He was a bit reticent, as he didn't know much about PTM. So we go in, and it fricking straight up lives up to the hype. What a place!!! The show was great and he was into it and really enjoyed the whole spectacle of Red Rocks, his first concert, and the music too.
Opening of the show
So American
Pretty fried by the time we got back to the hotel.
So for yesterday, I had thought about Pike's Peak, but it was just a bit far, especially since we were kinda slow starting, for obvious reasons. So we just headed back west on I-70 to Idaho Springs. Had some incredible pizza there at Beau Jo's, and then took out for Mount Evans. Had no idea what to expect in my work vehicle and really thought we may have to turn around at some point. But the van handled it like a true champ and we drove the entire way to the top of the highest paved road in North America.
This was hands-down the most incredible, stunning drive I have ever made in my life. Hard to do it justice with words and these videos really won't either. But here are a few...
First video of drive up
From the summit
Descending
Not sure which is better... This one or the one right above
And hats off to my son for being a pretty damn good videographer for this whole drive. He kinda let on later that he was pretty nervous at times. The curves on those videos can surely show why.
Before we were even off the mountain my boy said he will remember this weekend for the rest of his life. Safe to say I certainly will too. One of the best weekends of my entire life.
Took him to the airport today and he's back home in Jax now. Holy Crap. Not even sure what to do right now. Pretty much just getting on back to work tomorrow.
Thanks for letting me share. Enjoy the videos.

Good for you living life outside of Baton Rouge. I think I'd be more likely to believe in God with majestic mountains like that around

That's cool. So you know what I mean. And yeah, the phones are great to have. Happy for the preservation.

Been in Jax for awhile but still call BR home with my Mom and siblings all there. But yeah, took a little while to get out and about as much as I am now but this job has certainly allowed me to do that. It does suck in that I'm away from my children but it also makes weekends like this all the more special. Hated not having my daughter here too but she was already coming out here to volunteer at a Young Life camp in Buena Vista. She'll be landing on Saturday and getting on a bus within a few hours. Planning to have lunch with her at the airport.

I'm sitting in the Denver airport right now. Its Gods country out here. LA sucks
U don't see trash everywhere, or a cop every 3 miles.

Yeah it is flat out AWESOME out here. No doubt.
I will say though that I have seen a pretty fair number of people who appear to be down and out, and I've had a couple of customers tell me that the marijuana legalization has had some unintended consequences with regard to an influx of people in general, including some not so productive members of society.
But again... Yes, fabulous out here.

A whole lot to like out there. My oldest lives in the area. Glad you were able to get your son out there with you.
Not many buffalo in the Colorado Rockies. You do need to visit Rocky Mtn NP before you leave.
