Yeah that's high. My house is 2500 sq ft and is 50 years old and my average bill is like $230

Embrace renewables. Take control of your energy at the individual and community level. You will never be able to vote a global market to your benefit. Governments and huge organizations around the world control these markets. Take control locally.

What’s the benefit of levelized billing? I don’t get that option in the PNW.

They average your bill over the previous 12 months and you pay that amount. So your bill is roughly the same every month. It fluctuates some but usually like $10-15

It doesn't save you any money but it makes budgeting easier.

2600 sq feet. We’ve had two years straight of paying GA Power $400ish during August/September.

Before that, above $300 was the what I’d consider “high”.

If you lock in a contract when energy is dirt cheap like it had been, not so much now. As these cheap contracts roll over people are going to have a rude awakening here.

So you'd rather just pay more all the tome rather than only when prices are high?

Makes no sense

So if you moved into a new house in BR, I assume Entergy or Demco leverages historical data on what the previous homeowner paid monthly if you opt for levelized billing?

That would be my guess, but personally I don't see the benefit of levelized billing. If a few hundred dollar variation month to month would blow up my budget, seems like I'd be better off keeping an eye on my consumption and seeing that reduction immediately, right? Or I think at least I would prefer to budget a bit above my average and put that into an account under my control each month and pay the bill out of that.

Does anybody have solar? What's the offset? Is it true that they will pay you for putting power into the system or something like that?

Because the less you use, the more they charge per KWH. Been keeping track of it via a spreadsheet for years. They won’t allow you to pay less by using less.

That's called "net metering", which basically means your meter will turn backwards when your panels are making more than you use. You pay for your net consumption, what you take from the grid minus what you put onto it.

How this is done varies by power company, and there are likely a bunch of terms and conditions that frick you over in one way or another.

I would like to see your data, because I have looked at a whole lot of power bills for a whole lot of buildings and I have never once seen this happen.

I’m in Massachusetts and they just announced that our supplier, National Grid, is raising their electricity rates by **60%**

They just bumped the ROI of solar by 60%. That shortens the payback period by 38%, knocking years off.

Get quotes, run the numbers.

I had one sky high bill. Next was a little higher than normal. Then back to normal.

Idk what y'all are doing to run up your bills so high. Mine is $180 for a 2000Sqft house with the AC at 68° all night. Mine has never been over $250.

It wouldn't blow my budget up but I much prefer knowing about how much my utility bill is each month rather than it being some sort of grab bag surprise.
