I went down to my workshop today to find all my tools and machines gone. They took everything. Even my $1 harbor freight clamps. They even took a half finished knife I had on my bench. Took a vise off the table, probably using my tools.

I was pissed. I was hurt. I was confused. I was enraged.

I was spinning.

How could people take tools? Tools aren't just things if you use them to create things. They are precious objects, even the cheap ones.

They even took my grandfather's drill.

Anyway, here's the good part. I belong to several bladesmithing communities, so i posted about getting all my stuff stolen. Within two hours they raised $800 to help me replace my stuff and several members are sending me care packages of tools this week.

It's amazing how good and generous people can be sometimes.

Wasn't your deductible only $500?

man, I am sorry to hear about your shite getting taken...you are right, some of that stuff had meaning far beyond the $ value of the tools. hope you can get yourself back into a workable situation quickly.

I've had one of my tool trailers picked clean before. I know your pain. It's a sickening feeling when someone robs you of your livelihood

Some people are human, some are human garbage.

Glad you know some of the former.

I hear people proclaim that they can't understand using deadly force against property crimes.

I, on the other hand, would proudly help you beat the low lying dick eating motherfricker who did this to death with a peen hammer.

Go to the nearest pawn shops with a list of the stuff you had stolen. The police aren't going to do that as quickly as you can.

Keep an eye out on craigslist and ebay. ESPECIALLY for the unique items that may have been taken. Don't be surprised if it's somebody in the community specifically for your trade (assuming you have some specialist stuff).

Glad you have some folks that have yer back.

I don't shop on these sites due to so much of it being stolen property. I refuse to support thieves.

I have more than I will need. The remainder is going to the Boys & Girls Club in Birmingham.

Sounds like he got a taste of the bad and good. Tools are valuable and if people are looking around a workshop, then they are likely looking for tools to steal. If you have a police report, go to the pawnshops in the area. That's one of the easier ways for the theifs to turn stolen items into clean money.

You can't get away from thieves, it doesn't matter where you live, if the right people sees an opportunity, they will go for it. But the one thing about the times we live in, drug addiction has become an epidemic so there are probably more people looking around for shite to steal in order to get their next fix than there were 15-20 yrs ago.

Seriously, one of the guys who arranged the donations is a guy named Tom Kinder. He will be competing on Forged in Fire Tuesday night. If you like the show, pull for him. He helped me out a lot today. Kind of makes me think he won.
